As promised, while we're waiting for the new windows for the tumbler to arrive, I've started a little project to work on my brush skills. Revells VW Golf 1 GTI in 1:24 is a rather recent relaunch of an old standby kit they completely retooled. In contrast to the old rather basic kit, Revell showed off what they can do if they put their mind to it and split this car into 151 superbly detailed parts which you get to put together in 63 steps. I've just mated the engine to the "engine room" and I think it's time to show some progress pics. Don't worry about the lighter, it's an injoke for another forum. Also useful for scale. The barenaked start - just the engine block Adding oil pan, differential and axles The belt thingy, that's 3 parts Getting a head Getting tiny Mating

This is a recent redesign where they went all out on making a really detailed kit. On that note, I've been filling up the "engine room" with all kinds of bits and pieces, still not done with it either.

The detail looks really good, and lots of room for mods, very nice!

I tried modding in some cabling actually but what I've got left over from the Ducati is way too thick for this scale. It's full enough anyway I guess

We got shoes. One thing that's really astonishing is how well this kit goes together. I am not used to this from Revell.

That is looking fantastic! Just a quick pointer, the air intake hose from the intake manifold to the fuel distributor would have been made of rubber and is matt black in colour.

Thanks, seems to be an error in the instructions. I'm far too trusting. I'll see if I can get this redone :)

Back from vacation and a short sick spell. Finally got to add some new parts to the tiny thing. I wasn't too sure about the decals for the seats but it turns out after a layer of matte lacquer (not yet quite dry in the lower picture) they look pretty nice. The seat belt buckles were difficult to paint correctly, but I'm quite proud of how they look. Not pictured: I've corrected the air intake hose as suggested by Nem. Thanks again. Yes, that's an Iveco Stralis engine in the background, a little something something I started up but not quite ready for showtime yet.

See those doors? They are now my personal enemy. I couldn't find a sensible way to mask them so I decided to freehand this. I'm never doing that again. Next Golf will be in all black. Revell, please split things like these into different parts, thank you.
