hell i no longer care bout our differences, your decking and your planking are extra ordinary.
that planking looks as smooth as a baby's bottom, im going to have to give my build more attention when sanding.
VERY well done with it its truely outstanding.

Thanks Secret,
I received my Walnut planks today, Here I thought i would see how they bend. I found them quite easy to work with when wet.

Hi ,, Thanks for the comments...
Here I have deviated from the instructions and fitted the Stem and Keel before planking and have cut a rabbet which the instructions don't have you doing. I am measuring for the garboard plank which I have bought a 10mm planks for..
I also have had to severly pack out the ribs to get them level..

nice work there magpie.
its about typical that the laser cutting quality isnt up to par though eh? looks like a nice bit of filing for the nail too, it'll be just typical you stab yourself on it if you dont lol.
nice work throughout the build as always anyway, look forward toseeing more progress.

superb work Magpie. Absolutely faultless. I have, probably to you a basic question. I made a hash of the first lot of outer planking and have decided to try it again. In the instructions it says to start the planking off 25mm below the deck, which i did, but then trying to get the flow around the ship was a complete nightmare. I notice in your post #49 you seem to start off at deck level??? If you have, does the first plank follow the deck level from stern to bow. It would make lining things up a lot easier and obviously the 25mm is made up of 5 x 5mm planks. Also if you have done this it makes it easier to see where it should finish on the bow. As for the stern I assume that it would fall naturaly into place by following the deck. Sorry if this is a basic question but new to wooden models. Planking of the stern knight heads (if thats the correct term) came out the same as yours, more probably by accident . Pretty sure I got the fairing right as had a lot of packing and filing to do and the planks do tend to flow smoothly, its just that starting point. Hope you can help. Thanks Darren

Thanks ,
Yes I started the planking at deck level, Flush with the bottom of the deck all the way round give or take as not to bend or twist the plank where it doesn't want too go. Did I send you a planking book link if not ~I have Pm'd you..

Hi All,
Here I have started to make markings to where I will start the planking, Preparing and marking is time consuming. I have installed a Plank for me too mark up, It will be removed as it is pinned..Lol..

Just curious about why you marked up the planing positions.
Once you put the base plank on and pin it isn't it simply a case of butting each plank on the the next? If you put them to their assigned positions isn't there a danger of leaving gaps even if your measuring is accurate?

Hi All, Not posted for while been busy..lol..
I first installed the centre strake to get a split between lower and upper hull. I then put masking tape into the gaps. and on the centre rib the wides gap I placed planks there and counted how many it would take to fill, i drew a line on the centre tape at the point of each plank. I removed the tape of the shortest rib and placed it on a piece of wood and drew a line with a square exactly the same as the tape then in order placed each piece of tape in between those lines, Then with the centre piece of tape in place I drew a line across all pieces of tape,
I Removed them and placed them back on the ship in the right sequence . I the cut along the tape on each tape parallel to the last plank and stuck them to a plank.( mark position of each rib). That then gives a width need for section of plank, So i can file or plane the plank to the tape. Giving the correct shape. Once sanded i Fitted them..
I didn't bend the plank along the ship sideways. At the stern I have used a stealer.. Last pic is the stealer, Find it..lol
Thanks , Chris...
