JNR Class C57 steam locomotive
The Class C57 is a type of 4-6-2 steam locomotive built in Japan from 1937 to 1947 and was the first modern standard passenger engine and appeared nearly everywhere on Japanese sub-main lines, and is said to be the most popular passenger engine among Japanese steam locomotives.
A total of 201 Class C57 locomotives were built. The class was retired from regular passenger service in 1975.
32 Class C57 locomotives have been preserved, of which two, C57 #1 and C57 #180, are preserved in full working order. C57 #1 is operated by JR West and is based at Shimonoseki Depot.
C57 #180 was restored to working order by JR East, and hauls special event trains on JR East lines mainly between Niigata, Aizu-Wakamatsu, and Koriyama.

Pre-painted satin black components. Static display model with working features: Operable smokebox & firebox doors. Illuminated firebox, & smoke box lamp., sliding cab windows, folding cab arm rests. Digital sound module of the real C-57 steam sound and whistle.
The collection also includes a "rolling road" track display base, which displays the locomotion movement.
Note - The C57 model is NOT intended or suitable for use in play or on a model rail layout.

I think this presents some amazing weathering possibilities. I'm building my D51 naked (well, "building" is a bit too big a word, right now I'm mostly collecting the issues as I'm too busy with other stuff), so this one would make a lovely contrast. I'm seriously tempted... Any images I post on my personal builds are free to be used and shared under Creative Commons Attribution license, which means you can do what you want with them, on the condition you mention I'm the author.

I love it. Looks stunning. For me personally the building process is too much of a repeat of the D51 to consider this kit, but it IS a beauty. Is the lacquer protected in any way? With the D51 if I have an accident, I can remedy it by drowning the parts in acetone (for glue) or getting out the steel wool (for scratches).

I have seen the parts it really is a quality kit with a top quality finish and I would recommend it to anyone. Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .
