The star of the Saitama Railway Museum is Japanese National Railways Pacific (4-6-2) steam locomotive C57 135 which was built by Mitsubishi in 1940.
In 1975, it pulled the last steam-powered train in JNR service, a passenger train on the Muroran Main Line in Hokkaido. Given its historical importance, it was ordered preserved by the authorities, and is mounted on the turntable in the center of the museum.
