The Panthers we see today were built by Maschinenfabrik Niedersachsen-Hannover (MNH) under British control for evaluation purposes.

Why did the modern tank go back to smooth bore guns?
I'll take a guess at this one, is it anything to do with most tank rounds being discarding sabot and fin stabilised so they don't need expensive rifleing in the barrel? Spot on Robin, your logical thinking worked!! Your question.

Yaay! Here, this Vulcan thinking does have it's uses! (missing laughing emoticon!) Ok then, what was the very first German aircraft type to be shot down by a British aircraft in WW2 and what type was the British aircraft? Robin. Hi Ian! A good try! The Heinkel 111 was the first German aircraft to be shot down over Britain (and by a Spitfire too) but it wasn't the first German aircraft to be shot down from the start of the war! Was it a Hurricane that shot down a Heinkel He 111?

Another good try Nem! But not there yet! A little hint - the first German aircraft downed by a British plane was not brought down over land! Robin. I'm going to take a stab at this but I've got no idea what question to ask in return, assuming I even get it right. This is a complete stab in the dark after a story I remember reading some time ago. Was it a Hurricane shot down by a Spitfire during a friendly fire incident. The Battle of Backing Creek (or someting similar) if I remember correctly EDIT: scrub that, the question specifically says a German aircraft

I'll have to look that one up, never heard of that incident! You're right though, question is about a German aircraft but here's another hint - I haven't actually mentioned any RAF aircraft! (big cheesy grin!) Robin. Robin. The friendly fire incident was the Battle of Barking Creek http://www.bbc.co.uk/his...tories/70/a5781170.shtml

Was it the Cub pilot who shot down a Storch with a revolver?
That's another one I hadn't come across! (But NO!) After I posted this question I was looking through the web for pics to put up after the answer was found - I actually discovered that a very old Frog kit of the victorious British aircraft featured the very incident on the box top with the German victim going down in the background!! (Hint No3) (Even bigger cheesy grin!) Robin. Hi Robin was it a spitfire and the German aircraft a flying bomb. Current builds.Hachettes build the bismark,HMS Victory, HMS Hood. Finished Builds Corel HMS Victory cross section.

Hi again Ian! Nope! (But a good guess) Another clue - It wasn't a Spitfire OR a Hurricane, and the winning aircraft wasn't a part of the RAF! This is a tricky one I must admit. If no-one gets it by the end of the weekend I'll give you all the answer if that's all right with Nem, and try another one! Robin.
