Hi All, A small update. I fitted the second chine at the bow without to much bother and moved on to the stern centre keel. I widened the slots for the keel until a comfortable fit was achieved, then in the rear 6 inches of the keel piece, put a series of razor saw cuts and filed the cuts out a bit with a miniature file. It`s quite a bend in the stern keel so required some serious clamping. With the stern keel set, I returned to the bow end to start on the frame shaping (indicated by the red arrows) as this is where the plating will start. As can be seen from the picture the bow plating will need serious bending and shaping. Time to bring out the old baby bottle steamer I purchased on ebay. When the bow plating is completed, there are two balsa blocks to fit in the bow and shape. Below are some pics of the state of play at the moment. Next update will be when the bow plating and blocks are finished. Happy building. Hi All, Thanks to all those who looked in since the last update. Found a few minutes to test the next stage out today, so out came the trusty baby bottle steamer,(bought on ebay for £1, yes just £1). Took it steady with the first steaming so not to over do it. Have now clamped and tied the plate in place till dry. In the second pic a black line and arrow show where the plate will be trimmed at a later date. The red arrow shows where the front end of the plate will need to be bent down, this will be a second steaming just to the front end. That`s all for now as just testing the waters (or steam) on this piece. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Hi All, Had a week off work last week, so inbetween going out and about with the good lady to the likes of HMS Trincomalee and a parrot sanctuary etc I managed to get a bit done on the "Creole Queen". Unfortunately it`s part of the build that`s very time consumming, but time and patience spent at this point can only pay dividends later. So, it`s plating time. As shown earlier there are three plates each side fitted to the underside at the bow end. These parts needed steaming, bending, shaping, bit more steaming as the shape changed and then fixing in place. With all six in place a very small amount of filling and sanding required. The first two pics show the state of play at this moment in time. More trimming reqired at a later time and only a first sanding done. As there is still more plating to go around this area, I`m going to leave this as is for now untill I see the fit of the other plates. The next job is to fit the main lower hull plates. Pic three shows where the main plates butt up to the bow plates.(Not much work required here, it`s a pretty good fit. Pic four shows the length of the main plates and where the work will be needed. As can be seen the plates do not butt to each other to well and at the far end there is some serious curve to be added to what are 11cm wide panels. Bring out the truty steamer again. That`s it for now. Happy Building Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Hi, Thanks to all who have looked in, it really is appreciated. Tomick wrote:Are the hull sides planked or plated? In answer to the above question, there is one single plate per side. This gives it`s own solutions/issues. A single plate should be a great time saving over planking, but because this model is 48 inches in length, there is one very long joint to get accurately fitted between the bottom and side plates on each side. The kit designers say it should be a mitred joint, but to get that very accurate would be very time consuming, so they offer a compromise. They suggest that in the main it can be a butt joint, but due to the change of angles where the plates meet toward the bow the final section of the bow curve should remain a mitred joint. Who said life should be easy? LOL Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"
