Personally I don't do dead people. In more than half a century I have never seen a so called ghost although I can say I have had some strange things happen over the years but nothing that cannot be logically explained.

Portsmouth Dockyard is reputedly haunted by several ghosts and as far as I remember there were guided tours of the most haunted places at one time. ( I don't know if these tours still take place).

You would have thought with her violent and tragic past there would be some reference or perhaps tales of wounded/dead seamen or even Nelson and Hardy still roaming the decks still fighting 'Trafalgar'. I have Googled the question of hauntings and there is very little recorded on the matter. Perhaps some of you know different...........

Blink Blink it was on a grey dark moon licht nite that the boogyman came a lookinAngry Bored Glare

Most ships have a wee boogy tale to tell, what makes it all so real is the age & history of the ship which can make it all so feasable especially when doing the middle watch after watching some crappy horror film

RNH Haslar in pompie is strive with ghost stories which is quite feasable with it being the hospital
I've witnessed grown men refusing to do certain things alone
Which makes u wonder (well me anyway) is there any truth in the stories

Apart from "u get a wee chill when ever u enter this compartment i can feel it"

LOL LOL of course u can its below the waterline LOL LOL

i for one dont believe in ghosts i am interested in the subject cause i wanna be proved wrong but there has never been any solid evidence,,out of all the tv shows that try to prove this is a fact they all seem to fail, you think they have captured a ghost on camera only to be let down by a logical explanation.
cheers benny

Thats a good point budgie.
When I was based at Dolphin (the sub base for you non matelot guys) we heard there could be some scary old stuff in Haslar.
As well as that Dolphin itself had a few stories to tell so I heard.
Used to frighten the crap out of me when we had to do security rounds.Scared
You couldn't cheat coz you had to clock in at variouse points.

I wondered whether there are stories of strange incidents on Victory when I visited, especially down in the orlop, it felt so eerie down there, despite all of the visitors, there was a still a feeling of quietness about it.

Ah Haslar, the hospital that was more akin to a prison. Did anyone see the Time Team about it?

As for the debate whether ghosts exist or not, there certainly are far too many people who claim to have seen something for it to be dismissed. However, nor can we as of yet explain it rationally. My argument is that it is a branch of physics and psychology that has not yet been explained. I have a very keen interest in this subject, and always love to hear what people say they have experienced. Anyone got any good ones? BigGrin

My mate currently works on the Victory, (HOW DO I GET THAT DRAFT!!!!!) and so i asked him about this, he said he has never heard of any ghosts on the Victory, although doing security patrols on her at night is very scary when the wind is up in the riggin!!!
