Not sure if I have a problem here but instructions and images are not that clear. In step 14 of the hand rail assembly it says that the top rail should 'abut the quarterdeck and forecastle'. These decks are at different heights above the central bulwarks. This means that bow end of the top handrail will be around 6mm higher than the forecastle deck. Is this correct? I will try and attach images to show you what I mean.

Hi Simon . Just had a look at my pictures as I am on holiday at the moment so can't look at the real thing and there is a different in hight from bow to stern but I don't know by how much with out looking at mine. Hopefully someone will come up with the answer. By the way your build is looking sweet .

Hi Simon, your pics look spot on, just as it should be. There is a distinct height difference at the bow end of the handrail compared to the stern end. The bottom edge of the rail should be level with the decks. Hope this helps

Glad that my pics show that things are right thus far. However, if I place the top handrail level with the decks there will be a very distinct taper in the handrail posts from forecastle (short posts) to the quarterdeck (longer posts). Not sure that this will look right.

Hi Simon, take a look at the pics here in Issue 84, you will see the rail does taper from stern to bow..... Hope it helps.

Hello Simon, while I agree with my fellow sovereign builders that there is a slope to the handrails ,I do think that your difference in height from front to back is quite large. It could be that there is too much slope to the forecastle deck,

Thanks for your responses Martyn, Gandale and Nightwisher (by the way your build looks really good).

I have a height difference of around 7mm between each end of the hand rails. Not sure I can do much about this if this is way out. I am interested to know what height difference you guys have. Maybe I should just keep going as it may be not wrong at all. I am waiting for paint to arrive from UK so am not working on this right now - plenty of other bits to work on.

Hi Simon just got back from my holiday and have measured the gap between the top side of the bottom rail to the underside of the top rail , the front one nearest the bow is 7mm the other one nearest the stern is 12mm

Hope this helps rgd Martyn

Thanks for that Martyn. Looks like I am around 2mm out at the bow end. I think I will make the underside of the top handrail at this end 6mm as a compromise. Hopefully this won't have any future consequences.
