I've built many plastic kits over the years, including Modelspace's two McLaren F1 kits- I'm about half way through the MP4-4 at the moment.
I did dabble with Billing boat kits as a youngster but really had no idea what I was doing and never completed them.
Now I am very tempted to have a go at a wooden ship model again, and really like the look of the Soleil Royal. I hope that with the clear instructions that De Agostini provide, and internet resources- including this forum of course- that I might actually make a decent job of it.
I am just wondering whether I should try or would this kit be too complicated for my first wooden ship in about 40 years??
All advice welcome!!

To be honest I have built a lot of kits from different manufacturers and Deag have been the best for getting the best instructions to help new people to build kits Rgd Martyn Building ?

Hi, Ordinarily I guess my advice is to start with a smaller more simple ship first, but to be honest the DeAg step by step instructions are as good as it gets and if you do a build diary the level of forum support will be enough to deliver a great result. If you build a month behind to get any tips you should progress with ease I start my build next weekend and cannot wait Hope you take the plunge and build A long Jase “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”

Hi Mattsr I had only built plastic kits before and i bought into the DelPrado Victory partworks ( which i now realise is not a great kit )around 12 years ago, started it and left it for a while and got back into building it a couple of years ago, i went looking for info on the DelPrado kit and came across this forum, looking at the Deag kits and instructions compared to what i had before there is no comparison, this has been a valuable source of inspiration and knowledge and you wont go far wrong, look forward to seeing your build up and running. Hi Mattsr. The build instructions are step by step, and are very clear and good. There are forum support team members who can give you advise if needed Regards Ian Current builds.Hachettes build the bismark,HMS Victory, HMS Hood.

Hi everybody and thanks for the replies. It seems from the build diaries and a message here that seems to have disappeared (?) that the Victory kit has very clear instructions and is as good a place to start as any. So I think I will give that a go instead for now!

Just taken the plunge and subscribed to the Victory on the 24 month schedule! Really looking forward to making a start, although it may be a few weeks yet before I can get going. I am sure it will be challenging at times but with the help of all you lovely people here on the forum I am sure I shall get there! :)

Great choice, she's a stunning kit to put together and the build instructions are the best you will find. You have a wealth of information, experience and assistance at your fingertips through the members on this forum who will be only too willing to help when needed.... Look forward to seeing you get underway and I'm sure you'll love the experience....
