So here is my entry for the 2016 build of the year competition.Randy Coopers Time machine 2002 The classic HG Wells story was initially made into a movie in 1960 starring Rod Taylor as the traveler . This became a classic Sci Fi movie and is still a very entertaining movie. It was remade in 2002 with Guy Pearce as the time traveler. The movie wasnt that great-Jeremy Irons was terribly miscast and Guy Pearce was just OK. The special effects in the movie were pretty spectacular though. The most interesting part of the remake was the redesigned Time Machine. At the time this was the most expensive movie prop ever made. The upper and lower spinning sections of the machine actually did spin and this was a very hazardous prop to be around because of those moving parts. Randy Cooper made a model of the 2002 Time machine and Masterpiece models bought the original and made molds to cast it in resin. They released this as a kit with over 300 resin parts. The kit is designed for an experienced modeler since it requires some scratchbuilding skills and does not come with step by step instructions-just some photos taken during construction. The kit is made up of resin pieces and you need to supply some metal rods and extra parts to finish the kit.I dont really know what I am getting myself into with this kit.I think it will be very challenging, but the end result is such an unusual and awesome design I decided I needed to give it my best shot. darbyvet attached the following image(s):

You seem to have set yourself a massive challenge with this by the sounds of it. It does look like a splendid model though and should prove to be an interesting build. I'm still contemplating what to do for my build

Hi darbyvet This is going to look so good, looking at your photos it doesn't look like a model at all, so detailed. Hows the build coming along, hope you have managed to get time to start. “Count your age by friends, not years. Count your life by smiles, not tears.”

Hi taz, I will be posting some pics soon.I have started on the platform and I am remaking it in wood.It is a resin cast piece and I am not good at painting to make it look like wood.I will be using the resin parts to make a template and then cut the parts out of a piece of cherry wood that is one its way to me.

So a quick update on the Time Machine, I got a 1/4 inch oak board to make the platform. It was a bit warped when I got it so I soaked it and placed it under some weights to straighten it out.I thought it had worked so I cut out the frame and added the planks.Unfortunately after a few days the warp returned. The place I bought the wood from kindly sent me a second piece which had no warp so I recut the frame and will be installing the planks again in the next few days.Pics to follow

I measure the resin frame for the platform from the kit and drew the outline on my oak board. I then used a band saw to cut out the piece from the board and the next step is to use my Jig saw to cut out the interior portions.Once this is done I will mount the planks to make the platform. darbyvet attached the following image(s):

OK now I have cut out the interior of the platform base with a scroll saw.I am waiting on some 1/4 oak planks for the platform and then I will glue those to the base.it look better than the resin version supplied with the kit. darbyvet attached the following image(s):

Planks have now been added to the platform.I still need to cut a hole on the platform, but I am waiting for a dry fit of the parts so I get the hole in the right spot. This platform will be stained and the rivets will be added after that.I think it looks better than the resin piece. darbyvet attached the following image(s):

Thanks Nem Now I am building the base on which the platform sits. These pieces require a lot of clean up and some hole drilling. Here is a rough test fit.it will take quite a bit of dry fitting and sanding to get these parts to fit well. darbyvet attached the following image(s):
