Hi Guys, Got my printer completed last night and started checking out the software.

I cant get the Arduinio driver to recognize the printer.
I'm using Windows 7 64bit and have tried version 1.06, 1.05 and 1.6.8 of the Arduino driver packages; they all load but when I plug in the USB cable it fails to install the driver.

Also noticed that when the USB cable is plugged into the printer, I see a green light flash a couple of times then goes out.

The RepetierHost software doesn't see the printer port either.

Device Manager in Windows shows ID BOX under the Other devices section.

I've tried this on 2 different Windows 7 64bit laptops now, with the same result.

I don't have a Windows 7 32bit machine to try but could it be the 64bit drivers are the issue.

When the printer is powered on, all I get is the rear fan coming on.

Hi Isherrit

Have you tried changing the comm number for the USB port this may work especially if you already have a printer attached to your PC.

I would also check all your connections as when the USB cable is attached to the PC this should power up the circuit board and the green light should stay on. The green light should stay on at all times even if the PC has not reccognised the printer.

One other thing to check is that the USB ports are USB 2 as any USB 3 ports can be a problem aswell, the way to tell if the USB port is USB 3 it will have a blue plastic insert, USB 1 or 2 ports have a white or black plastic insert.

i get the same thing, only the case fan comes on.

as for the usb port, it is a white usb port(usb2)

Need to find a solution or develop a program for just the idbox

Ok first you need to cure your green light problem so check all your connections and that your motor drivers are placed in the correct positions on the circuit board. When you can get a constant green light from the circuit board when the USB cable is connected we can then go forward to solving any other problems.

Did some checking last night on the Arduino website forum and found an old article (2012) which I've quoted below:

"If your computer doesn't recognize your Arduino and won't install the proper drivers, this fix may work. I used it for my Arduino UNO with Windows 7 64-bit, so steps may vary for other devices and operating systems. I'm writing this from memory so sorry if there are some gaps.

1) Go to the "Unknown device" which is the Arduino.
2) Click around in the "Hardware" tab to open a window with the "Update Driver" button on it. Click it.
3) Choose the option to find the driver from a list on your computer. Then choose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".
4) Scroll down and choose "Ports".
5) Choose "Arduino LLC" and then "Arduino UNO". If there is no "Arduino LLC" option, follow the steps below:
a) Click the "Have Disk" button.
b) Point to the Arduino folder, then to the "drivers" folder, then select the .inf file for your particular device (In my case it was Arduino UNO.inf).
6) Install the driver. Ignore any warning messages about verification of publication.
7) The Arduino should now be listed as a COM port instead of an unknown device. In the IDE click Tools > Serial Port and select the new COM port. In my case it was COM5."

I tried this and succeeded in getting the driver to install and assign COM3 to the printer. I selected the "Arduino Mega ADK" as the logic board looks similar to this model.

I was then able to run through the setup process; the USB port I am using is USB 2 and the green light still appears to flash a couple of times when initially plugged in but then stays off.

Checked out my X, Y and Z controls manually as per the setup instructions but when I try to print, the extruder head homes and then nothing happens.

Great stuff , As I have said before the green light needs to stay on as the circuits control the movement of the head when printing, it may be the USB cable that is at fault so try using a different one to connect the printer to your PC.

I've changed the USB cable but still getting the same initial two flashes of the green lights then off. If I connect via the software I can send the printer X, Y and Z home commands as well as send the extruder and heater commands.

When I try to print something, it resets the home positions and then stops.

All the connections look fine (if incorrect, I'd expect errors when trying to control manaually but don't get them

The green light flashing on and off tells me there is a loose connection somewhere as this light should stay on to indicate power is getting to the circuit board. All the connections need to be double checked until the light stays on.

Also the mags say that all software should be as up to date as possible this includes operating systems.

Checked all the connections and checked Windows 7 laptop is fully patched up to date. Not sure where to look now.

Hi when you received pack 10 in stage 41, page 265 you are asked to test the power supply from the PC to the circuit board. When you did this did you get a constant green light as the instructions say or not. If you did then something has happened after that that has caused the green light problem.

Also I am using windows 10 and the printer works fine using that upgrade and it may be that you will need to upgrade to that operating system to get the printer to work correctly.

Hi I'm new to the forum but have had the same problems as others. My light flashed green as well. I did all the checks as yourselves. Had problems connecting drivers as others had. Went to print this morning and printer went to start position and sat there. Waited for extruder temperature to reach requirement and still sat there. What my problem was is in the code at beginning and end there is a M190 S50 (heated bed) I changed the S50 to S0 and away it went. Seems like it is waiting for the bed to heat up that we don't have. Needs a more permanent fix but at least it runs. The start and end code is loaded by slicer so will need changing every print.

Hi Jefwad

In pack 10 did you do the test as above to see if you had a constant green light if you did and it blinks on and off now then then something has changed from the test till now to cause this change. I would have highlighted the power light problem if it had failed at the test stage in pack 10.

I used windows 10 from the outset on mine and have had no need to change any programes to get the printer working and here is a link to my printer working on UTube:-

Out of interest can I ask what operating system you are using.

Hi sorry I said M190 S50 was at beginning and end. It is only at the beginning. I have now edited it out in the Slicer configuration Start G-code so it will not load this in future.

Sorry forgot to say I tried Win 7 64bit but got the driver problem so changed to Win 7 32bit and still had the same problem with the drivers. I have now put on the latest Arduino but I don't think there is any problem with 1.0.6 or 1.0.5 Here was the last item I printed. As an engineer I am quite impressed with the roundness. This was printed laying flat on the bed and a raft to stop it moving. It took about 9 mins to print and 32 layers at 0.2mm. Printer is now running fine.

Jefwad, great call man, I checked my Gcode and found the same. Edited the Slicer start script and the printer is now ALIVE and PRINTING :-)

I'm using Windows 7 64bit with the Arduino 1.0.6 driver. The key seems to be in that code for the Bed temperature, set to 0 and it works great.

Away to try a more complicated model now to see how the printer handles it.
