Hi Ncal

Can I ask what USB port you are using to plug in the supplied USB cable if it is a USB 3 type try using a USB 2 instead. To help in identifying the USB port USB 3 have a blue plastic insert and USB 1 and 2 either a white or black plastic insert.

Also if you are running Windows what version of the Arduino program did you download and if you are on Windows what version of Windows are you running and is it up to date.

Thanks

Andy

Ok thats good, but for your PC to talk to the printer you also need the Arduino program.

You can find the instructions for the download in magazine 10, page 257 . In the section ' connecting the idbox to your computer' there is a blue/green box with the Arduino download instructions. Download this program open it on your PC and then attach the USB cable.

The green light on the circuit board should stay on when you plug in the USB cable so double check all your connections and that the motor drivers are correctly seated. The circuit board is powered from the USB cable only so unless you have a constant green light you have a faulty connection some where. It may even be the USB port so try moving the USB connection if all else fails.

got green light to stay on, x & z axis motor working

Y axis motor and extruder fan still not working, but extruder heating up.

Will test current to fan to see if the wires are ok

When I press home on Z axis, manual control, is it supposed to go to top or bottom of idbox?

Going to bottom of Idbox???

Home position for Z is the bottom of the printer.

Home position for X and Y are top left corner of the printer looking from the front.

The red light will indeed flash on and off as the heat is mantained.

It sounds like you are using a print file which takes into account a heated bed which your printer does not have. Therefore you need change the bed setting to zero, otherwise your printer will remain at pause until it detects the heated bed is ready, which in your instance will remain at pause because your printer does not have a heated bed, hence why you need to change this setting.

Similar is discussed in this topic, see posts 11, 13 & 14

Changed settings to 0 bed temp in g-code.

But half way through the axis get stuck and there is a grinding/buzzing from motor, so the extruder isn't completing a movement that then means the next motion isn't fully completed. thus meaning the print is out of sync.

Which axis gets stuck?

You need to double check that the axis pulleys are correctly spaced and the drive belts properly aligned as indicated in the instructions, otherwise you may get motor jam. Also check that screws/nuts are tight as movement of a component may have the same effect.
