Thanks for the comments guys. The hull has now been 'dry docked' for the summer until the youngest goes back to uni in September but plenty of fittings to be getting on with and I can back to my Victory and Mossie. Just a brief update. I have made one of the cordage reels as a test. Pic 1 shows the components parts. Pic 2 shows the parts assembled in a very simple jig - a piece of plastic card with 2 pairs of holes drilled the correct distance apart for each different size reel. pic 3 shows the finished product. It would be possible to make them so the reels could turn but its not worth the effort as they are inaccessible on the finished model. Once all the reels for the sub shelter deck structures have been completed, they will be primed, painted and suitable thread wrapped around the reels to simulate the cord/hose. Although I have now lost my work space for working on the hull and superstructure (until September), I will be doing some work on various fittings between getting back to working on my Victory and mosquito, both of which have been neglected of late.

Hi,
Well I am back on the build at last. I have been doing some research in the interim - mainly on the correct hull porthole positions.
The hull has molded on porthole detail but after looking through all the pictures/photo's of Hood I could find I noticed that although the starboard side appears correct the port side isn't. Most of the clearer shots of Hoods hull are of the starboard side and it looks as if the manufacturer has just mirrored the port side from the starboard side.
For example the starboard after section of the hull has 17 portholes between the stern and start of the shelter deck whilst the port side has 18 and the size and location of the forward port side portholes differ on the port side to that on the starboard.
The portholes in the forward section correspond to compartments on the upper deck whilst those in the after section correspond to compartments in the main deck.
I have now scanned in the fore upper deck and the aft main deck plans from 'The anatomy of the ship' which show not only the cabin/compartment layouts but also the locations and size of the portholes.
I have printed these out at the correct scale for my model and so once the decks are complete I can mark the centre line and check (and amend where necessary) the locations of the portholes.
I will start by drilling out the anchor hawsepipes and fitting the remaining forward deck sections. I will then finish off the prop shaft hull penetrations, fit the rudder and fit the remaining stern deck parts.
I can then mark the centre line along the whole deck, mark and drill the portholes.
I will post pics hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

Cheers guys, thanks for looking in. Another brief update. I have installed the support structure for the bow under deck and drilled out the anchor hawse pipes, Pic1. I then glued the aft part of the forecastle deck in place and placed the bow part in situ. I then printed the drawings for the chaffing plates and hawse pipes to scale, cut them out and positioned them on the deck to mark out the hawse pipe positions, Pic 2. The haws pipes were then stitched drilled and cut out of the plastic deck, Pic 3. The deck was then fitted in position and a hawse pipe lip fashioned from plastic card was made, Pic 4. It was only after gluing the deck in place I discovered that the drawings (and most kits of the Hood) were wrong and the hawse pipes are not pear shaped as shown but more like a rectangle with rounded corners. I should have paid more attention the 'The Anatomy of the Ship' which shows the correct configuration - just shows you can't do too much research!! Luckily this can be easily rectified before the deck planking is applied later in the build - I will also have to make new hawse pipe lips. I then turned my attention to the prop shafts and made the foundations for the bulges where the shafts enter the hull. This was done by sanding plastic tube at an angle so that it fitted along the hull at the point of entry, Pic.5. These still have to be cut to their correct length at which point they will be glued to the hull and the bulges fashioned from milliput. The rudder was then fitted before the stern sections of the deck were glued in place, Pic 6. I have also been working on more etch frets for deck hatch covers and the clump catheads. The next couple of jobs will be to fit the rubbing strakes and sort out the correct porthole positions. After that it will be the making and fitting of the degaussing cables - not a job I am particularly looking forward to. That's it for now Graeme pemberg attached the following image(s):

Thanks for the kind words guys. A very brief update. I marked the position of the rubbing strakes on the hull and ran a length of masking tape along the position of the upper edge, Pic 1. I then fixed plastic strip in position using thick superglue, Pic 2. The bilge keels still need to be sanded smooth and the after (molded on ) water tight doors need to be detailed/replaced, I have not checked their accuracy for size and position as yet.
