Its the future no doubt.

Software can have bugs and components can fail but on the flip side humans are not perfect either.

Machines are immune to getting drunk, extremist beliefs, feeling suicidal etc..

Its very similar to the proposal for virtual pilots in aircraft.

The real major downside as far as I can see is loss of jobs. I know this all to well as I have worked on many systems that automate what a team of humans would previously do.
