Here's the rub!! When does one choose the finishing scheme you would like, natural wood finish or Victory painted? Issue #1 is sent with a cannon the barrel of which, is painted black, right? So, the assumption is that the kit that follows, will have ALL the cannons supplied finished in black, right? If I choose to finish Victory in natural wood, then the cannons will be brass, not so? (just as depicted in the photographs supplied in Issue "Welcome to Build Lord Nelson's Victory" (centre fold section) and also Issue 6 Front Page. These photos CLEARLY show the model built in natural wood with BRASS CANNONS. I have received my first issue and, as already stated, with the barrel of the cannon finished in black. I would like to finish my model in natural wood,so expect brass cannons. Phoned my local support in South Africa and was told in no undertain terms by a young lady who identified herself as Cheryl (S.A. phone +27 011 265 4304)that brass cannons are not being supplied. So, does that mean, I will haveto contend with black barrels for my model? Has anybody tried to remove the paint from the barrel suplied in the kit? If so, is the barrel brass, or not? If brass, then the problem is solved. Thanks for feedback. Eugene NEVER play leapfrog with Unicorns !!

Sorry Engene! The answer is NO! plain metal cannons painted black, not brass the prototype ship used in the adverts and in the magazines shows brass cannons, but we only get cheap metal ones. If you want brass cannons, then you have to pay for them yourself, we in the UK have got used to the cutbacks to this kit. Think of it as a starter kit if you want extras then you have to get your wallet out and order the parts you want. The part work is split into small parts so you pay a little each week. If you bought the full kit it would cost you less, but you wouldn't get the magazines which forms a practicum! (photo instructions) and history of the ships of the time. Put short, they have the right to make changes and the pictures might not be the same as the items sent to you! This lets them change things, not all the issues have been sorted yet, so more things could change mate. Good luck! Darron

Tell me Darron, does Artesania Latina (the kit manufacturers) know about this debacle? Do they know how DeAgostini have misled the public with this campaign and the quality of components supplied and the changes that have and are being been made? Surely Artesania are having real bad exposure here, with crappy steel instead of brass cannons, and ALL the other issues that are rife in this Forum. Has Artesania been approached by anybody, or have they perhaps responded to this matter? I would be most surprised that Artesania would allow this matter to proceed at the expense of their reputation. I have decided to bail out!! I am NOT going to spend a small fortune (albeit peacemeal) on a crappy kit. There are many facts that I cannot ignore, and, I would rather wait and save a few quid, be patient and go and buy a good quality kit and buy something that I know will give me my monies worth. DeAgostini have been down this road before, with Titanic, which turned out to be a disaster as well leaving many modellers and hobbyists angry and dissapointed, and, as true as faith, they've done it again!! ............ Best regards Eugene Topsides – The part of the boat that is not in the water. Also what you should not be caught looking at if you are a married male. NEVER play leapfrog with Unicorns !!

Not to get involved with the why's and wherefore's about supply, but the actual cannon of the later Victory are cast metal, the early type were bronze; as its the later Victory we are building then black cannon are closer to reality, (brass cannon were very expensive and therefore quite rare).
As for the supply of the Titanic series, I think you will find that this series was supplied by Hachette not DeAgostini.

Hi All
The HMS Victory partwork will comprise cannons which are all black, those which are complete as per the kit provided in issue 1, and those which will be false fronts for the cannons below deck (as per previous threads on the forum).
The pictures on the web site and some of the editorial are of the actual A L model we have commissioned for adaptation to the partwork series, however the model used for these shots showing brass cannons was one of the only publically accessible AL models in existance when the product was being created editorially, and happened to have brass cannons, which from a modeller's perspective we are told is quite common.
We had a choice of supplying brass or black cannons for our series, and decided to go with black as it was closer to the cast iron cannons shown on the exisiting HMS Victory. As you are all aware the HMS Victory has had a number of refits over the years including cannons, and in research many respondents who chose to paint their HMS Victory prefered the black cannons.
Thanks Admin
