Hi Tom

I didnt post about the sleeve lacing because Longblade in his diary covered it but your right about sharpening the punch it makes a difference. What I also did was to try and glue only along one line that would not interfere with the sewing. This meant running a line of glue about 5 mm inside the stitch line to fix the cloth.

Another way to do it would be to use that iron on trouser turn up material and thus no hardness from the glue:-

All the replies from all are very welcome. Thank you. Andy thanks for the advise. There is always a way to handle a problem; that is the joy of what we do. Then you just accept and live with it.😇

OK, this stage is now finished. The guards were straight forward. all is well. For what it is worth; hrs to date = 326.0. The base is another 61.5,so total time so far on my buddy Date is 387.5.

Looking great, the leg guards certainly gain weight after adding all the plates. The leg are joined with a pre sewn length of material so it may be a good idea to iron it first to get it to lay flat

Thanks for the tip. I will follow through.

Question; The Official Samurai Build ends at step 24 for me. Was it finished and, if so, do you know where it is posted?

Perhaps this question is more for Mr T.

It's to continue when I can find the time to get back to it among the workload.

Mr T,

Thanks for the response. Another question; is there a binder available for the Samurai build? If yes, can I get it over here?

Up and going on Pack 9. Not much to say so far, just added two more rows of plates to the first thigh guard. I think I will finish this guard before starting the right gauntlet.🙂

The guards are a bit boring but they look good so far. As you can see I had to tighten up the top row of plates with a bit of a tug and some CA. Did the job and will be under the backing.

Hi Tom

Those leg guards may be run of the mill but when completed and joined together they certainly look impressive when mounted on the finished stand. Great work as always.

Andy,

My "Boring" comment probably got a bit lost in the fog over the Atlantic. I fully appreciate your comments and know they will add tremendously to the whole figure. They are rather easy to do after all the tassets so I was a bit tongue in cheek here. But now I get to use some more of my favorite fabric to finish the backing!

Cheers,

Tom

Thomas

What an absolutly cracking kit this is.

Sat here looking at this the other day and thought to myself if you were making this full size in time gone by you would be doing exactly the same as you are in lacing all those plates.

I think this kit must be quite unique in that the build is more or less the same as you would be doing if building the full size article.

Your patience is paying off with a lovely even build to all thos knots and the like.

I decided to go to the second thigh guard prior to second gauntlet.

Here is a small tip on punching the guard fabric. Keep a pin drill close by and clean out the punch every six hole or so. The fabric material can build up in the punch quickly and it makes the work difficult. All a bit of fine sandpaper on a stick makes sharpening the punch quick and easy.👍
