Hi shipmates, my question is simple and may be stupid but I could really need a professional answer. I am at the stage of starting to plank my launch, my first planks ever. The mag suggest to soak the planks in water and than glue it to the hull. Butt.. what kind of glue should I use here?PVA would maybe take to long to dry and does superglue stick to wet wood ? Hi Timm, Ive used super glue on wet wood and in my experience it does stick pretty damn fast and tends to bleed through the wood, especially if the wood is thin, your wood may vary.
I use Alipathic wood glue, sort of yellowish colour to it, it does bond pretty fast, maybe you could pin it while it drys?
Also you could just use clamps of sorts to just hold the wood in position until it drys, then use normal glue.

Hi Colin Thx for that fast response. To be honest I am not a big fan of superglue. I have tried three different brands so far and they are all way too fast for me, by the time I got my pieces in position it already sticks like concrete.  That is the reason why I just reordered issue#1 again because I screwed up my 12 pounder several times. I read about that stuff every once in a while but I cannot find a german equivalent. Can recommend a certain brand? Maybe its been sold under the same name over here.  did you try a search for Aliphatic Resin rather than aliphatic glue mine is by Deluxe Materials name on bottle Genuine Aliphatic Resin in small print famous yellow glue for professional use a common one i have seen is by a company called Titebond (red bottles you want) http://www.titebond.com.au/products/index.htm

Timm,the planks on the launch are thin enough to bend without soaking.Just place your thumb nail against your forefinger & drag the plank through(applying pressure) repeat until you have the bend you require. Rob Nolli Illigitimi Carborundum!!!Current Builds: HMS Victory, SV Thermopylae

think you will have plenty of time for positioning gets tacky in a few minutes so can position plank without it sliding all over the place any excess glue can be wiped away wih a damp cloth Believed fully bonded strength reached in 6 to 8 hours If not happy with result wet the glue joints it will soften and you will be able to remove the plank without damage as i have learnt the hard way (not patient enough to get it right 1st time lol)  have you seen Colins Index of Topics there is a section there dedicated to all our worries & woes about the launch build which contains a lot of ideas etc http://forum.model-space....aspx?g=posts&t=552

Hi Timm I use Aliphatic.Totaly new to me. Nice & fast but you can still shift the timbers a tad if they are not quite in the correct position. I fitted my bow planks wet with no problem which was great as they are still nice & flexible  Bob

Thanks to all of you guys, so I will give this alphabetic-something-unspellable-glue a try. So happy that this is a written conversation, otherwise someone must have helped me with that knot in my tongue. @budgie: I must have overreed that "bend-between-fingers" part in Mikes Tutorial.
