Hi all

Slightly off the build topic but found this old Robbe Schnellboot 4 CH RC kit on fleabay not cheap but may appeal as a quick build.

Nice work Andy, she's certainly coming together now and looking good. Your resin casting looks to be very good too - well done.

Hi All

Made another mould to replicate the two outer Torpedo tube door locking mechanisms after casting these were added to the hull sides. Then the lower hull was masked over to enable the upper hull to be undercoated in white primer. I did manage to get the one side primed but only had enogh primer left to do one coat on the other side. I have ordered more and am now awaiting its arrival so I can finish it off. More soon.

Hi All

Before completing the decks I thought I had better get some paint on the hull. The main colour which is Schnelboot Weiss matches 70993 White Grey [ 151 ] by Vallejo, the decks match colour 70869 Basalt Grey again by Vallejo.

Now for the waterline and below. The paint colours are either Vallejo 70862 Black Grey or 70950 Black [169 ] which I went with. It seems that the black waterline stripe was abandoned and many photos I have seen (although in black and white) seem to confirm this painting instruction. The waterline was marked then masked off and the black painted below the waterline, once this was dry again the bottom was masked and covered ready for the grey/white but before any paint was sprayed I firstly covered the upper hull in a white primer once this was done the top color was added. I also sprayed the front of the skullcap with the same color this just leaves the forward deck to be painted and I can then carry on with the rear deck areas.

The hull after it was fully dry has been given a coat of clear varnish up to the decks to seal the paint and also be ready for the weathering to come later. When the masking tape is finally removed from the brass props it should set her off a treat with the black lower hull and the three props gleaming. More soon.

Andy

Really nicely done Andy

Waterlines can be really tricky to do neatly and I have seen many a waterline all 'wavy' but yours looks perfect, top job

Hi Dave

I always use a waterline marker these days and its a great tool to get a straight line on the hull. Then its loads of masking and dont forget to pre-paint the masking tape line to prevent seeping. Thanks for looking in and your comments.

Hi All

The torpedo tube rear ends have been painted after adding some plumbing and a couple of greebly's and then fitted in place. Both tubes arrived sealed up but I decided to add the semi loaded torpedo for effect and looks pretty good I think.

The front deck has been painted basalt grey and the various fittings left white there is still more to add here. The Observers position has now been added the the rear of the skullcap along with the flagstaff and ariel. At the rear of the bridge the helmet racks have also been added. All was first painted Schnellboot Weise and then the decks painted so the torpedo tubes could be fitted. More soon.
