Issue 69
Your parts:Body base, infrared support,flags,cables,infrared board,foam pad,on/body stickers,wrench and screws.
Saved parts: You will be using parts from the previous issues, so be sure to have these to hand before beginning:Power board, battery, head assemble ,leg assembly and the head components removed in stage 62.
Fit the body base Take Robi's leg assembly place it in front of you with the hole where the wires come out facing you. Then take the mini wrench and mount a M2x 5mm washer screw into its jaws. Spread Robi's legs so a screw driver can be inserted through the hollow shaft and using the wrench to position the screw so it can be screwed in place. Only tighten the screw so far so it just clears the base of the 'D' shaped servo socket.
Connect the switch cable Take the power board and attach the power cable to CN1 on the board.
Join the body and legs. Take the body base and pass the cables through the central hole then making sure not to pinch any wires take Robi's body assemble and attach it to the legs by lining up the servo shaft with the 'D' shaped hole in the leg assembly. Once it is correctly positioned again spread Robi's legs and finish tightening the screw you fitted to the leg assembly. Next take four M2 x 4.5mm and fix the body to the body base.
Wire the body and legs Take the power cable and attach it to socket CN2 on the power board and then using two M2 x 5mm fix the board in position inside Robi's body. Next identify the two servo cables one of which should be marked up to be the right servo lead. Take the lead marked right and place it in the socket on the CPU board next to the micro SD card making sure it is seated correctly then add the left leg lead to the last socket again making sure it is seated correctly and then add the foam pads if you have not already done so.
The switch and battery Make sure the switch to turn Robi on is in the off position or at the scarf end of the switch and then add the red circle sticker to the head side or on position of the switch. Now attach the battery cable to the last socket in the power board and then place the battery in the slot on the left side.
Recharge Robi Before we can do the final movement test Robi needs to be fully charged so attach Robi to his charger and when he is fully charged we can continue with the test.
Full body movement test Hold Robi by his scarf and off the ground for the test. Switch Robi on holding him by his scarf he should go to his neutral position then his arms from the elbows should move outwards along with his legs and tilt his head up, next Robi's knee's will flex along with his arms moving outwards and upwards, lastly the arms will move forward and the body turn to the right before returning to the neutral position then his eyes and mouth should light up and he will say 'ok'. Make sure all the movements are correct and consult the trouble shooting guide if things do not work as they should.
Program the TV card Remove the test SD card from Robi's CPU board and store it safely. Next position Robi so he is facing away from you and attach the blue mic cable to the socket in the lower VR board. Now take the white cable and add it to the upper TV/RC board next to the red switch. Take the LED/mic board and attach it to the other end of the white cable.
For this section you will need your TV remote. Turn Robi on and to set the on/off command switch the number 4 switch on the DIP box to on and then press the red switch so the red LED lights up. Place your remote about 5cm away from the infrared receiver and press the on/off button after a second the red led should go out. The on/off command is set.
Channel up command Set the DIP switch 1 and 4 to the on position and again switch on the red LED by pressing the red button again on your remote press the up channel button until the red LED light goes out. The command is set.
The volume up command Set the DIP switch 2 and 4 to the on position and switch on the red LED light again use your remote and press the volume up button until the red LED goes out. The command is set.
Testing the commands Point the LED/mic board towards your TV and press the red button the TV should turn on pressing the red button again should turn the TV off. Test the other commands by setting the dip switches and testing the channel up and volume up and down commands. When you have tested then all and they are working correctly set all the DIP switches to the off position. If any of the commands do not work just reset the DIP switches and repeat the instructions for that command.
Installing the LED/mic board Take the blue cable and attach it to the socket in the LED/mic board. Next take Robi's head cover and place the foam pad over the hole and then place the bracket over the hole and foam pad. Once the bracket is fully seated take the LED/mic board and fix it in position using two M2 x 8mm screws

Issue 70
Your parts: Back cover,hands,white/black strips,Final SD card, plastic washers and screws.
Saved parts: You will be using parts from the previous issues, so be sure to have these to hand before beginning:Robi and dry decals.
Complete Robi's hands Take the left and right hands and push them into position on Robi's hands making sure the widest part is uppermost.
Complete Robi's legs Position Robi's left leg so the inner servo cable can be seen and carefully feed the cable into each end of the holes until you have a neat line that sits in the groove and then cover the cable with a white sticky backed strip. Do the same for the right leg again being careful with the cables.
Insert the final SD card and seal up Robi's back Take the Final SD Card and place it in its slot on the CPU board making sure it is correctly seated then place the back cover on and fix it in place using four M2 x 5mm screws. The last thing to add is the Robi dry decal you have a choice of four so choose the one you will use and position it above the speaker on Robi's chest. Rub the sticker with a blunt instrument like a screwdriver handle and then carefully peel back the film leaving the decal in place.
This completes the construction of Robi, I hope you enjoy the build as much as I have!
Start up Make sure Robi is fully charged and disconnected from his charger then place him on his back with the scarf supporting his neck, his arms and legs straight and his feet at right angles to his legs. When you start up Robi for the first time he will go through a once only wake up process that will set his personality by you answering some simple questions.
Switch Robi on and he will slowly wake and sit up. He will then ask a series of yes and no questions, speak clearly with your answers from about 50cm's away and wait for him to stop speaking before you reply and if there is no response repeat you answer slowly and clearly until he asks another question. Once you have answered all of Robi's questions he will announce the stage complete and you can then interact normally with Robi. Make sure you read the 'Living With Robi' guide provided with this pack to help you interact with your new friend.
Congratulations on starting and completing your build of Robi I am having a great time with my new friend.
