Guy thanks for all the advice its been a great help. Well i did the galley plankining at the rear, well added the cut down strip in anyway and to me it does not look to bad. But ill let you lot decide on that. I have now finished the planking up to layer 9. After soaking planks in boiling water for around 30 mins i was finging that when fitting them to the fromt of the ship i was getting kinks in the wood, so went out and brought a soldering iron, it really made life easy in getting the front planks right. As for the rear, thats a different story, for some reason, dont know why both sides seem to be at slightly differnt heights so im going to leave the shapeing of the rear Untill all the plankings done, hopefully ill get it right. Well thats my progress for now. Happy building guys. Foz

Guys. Ive been tyining with ideas of how to spruce up the borining looking stand for this model. This is my forst go. Im not overly sure though, what are you thoughts on it please. One thing i have thought about is planking the front, then varnishining it and doing the wroding in more plankining on top with a different coulur stain. Guys your opinions on this would be truly appreciated.

Your Stand looks great. I'm pretty sure we will be getting a display stand at the end of the build though. Most other partworks have supplied one ( Bounty, Del Prado Victory. Cutty Sark) and I think DeAg will proivde one too. (fingers crossed) Jimmy L.
current builds : Lancaster 1/32 (Hachette) Revell USS Kearsarge Titanic Lifeboat
I started off with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Been extremly slow on my build due to not being at home. Only just got up to row 11 of the planking. As that is my last row at the front, those that need bending, i should get more done now. Just waiting for the last ones to dry before final shaping and fixining in place.

Another slow weekend on the build. Ive now finished upto row 12 of the planking. I have mar4ked out the second row of gun ports and started the shaping of the rear now. I do how ever a questions about 2 of the gun ports. It says mark them 4.5mm away from the ribs. But looking at the picture of there placement on pages 10-11 in issue27, looking at the port by rib 14 it is right up against the rib. Were do i cut this one out. Also the one by frame 15, after reading, do i cut this one out just 2.5mm away from the rib? Any while i wait for the cannon supports to dry, i cut out the 2 front ports and leaving it for now. Well thats it for this week, cant wait untill i go on leave on friday, 2 weeks of building comming up i hope. Cheers lads for all the help and hope you all have a good Christmas. Foz

Well let me first say that i hope every one on this forum has had a lovely Christmas and that you all got what you wanted. Well my next parts finally arrived on Christmas eve so ive been working on it since then and ive just finished the plankining up to issue 28. I actully thought everything was goining fine untill i marked out the upper row of gun ports and that infamous rib 15 finally struck for me. I knew it was slightly out of shape but not as much as when i marked the 2 gun ports nearest the bow and found them well out. Without ripping the whole of the planking off, which i dont want to do do you think it will look wrong to cut the ports out slightl;y forward of the lower ones or is there another way rond this which does not involve starting again. Any help is much appreciated. Foz

Hi Fozy, I had a similar problem with rib 15. My solution was to steam the rib joints on both sides free from the planking from the deck up and gently force the rib into the correct position and re-glue using clamps to hold until dry. I was then able to position the gun port correctly although I had to slightly cut into the side of the rib to achieve this. I hope this is of some help to you. CMB

Foz Hi fozy, move it forward cos thats where it should be, the lower deck gun ports are not in line on the real victory with the top ones, there isn`t a lot of difference between them but never the less they are not in line, and luckily the one thats the most out is the one you need to move it scales in at about 3 mm forward of the bottom one.without drawings of this build I cant say if it will affect anything else, but cant see what could go wrong. The drawing shows the gun ports, the red line shows the difference, but only alter the one you have to, and stick as close to the tomicks build as possible willz attached the following image(s):

Lads Thanks very much for the advice. I did try to steam the planks from the ribs but with no sucess so have left it. My mistake but one on other builds in the future that ill pay a lot more attention to. Any way. I have just finished the upper gun ports, unless you look closely you cant see the mistake, but its there and im the one to live with it. Well time to carry on with the planking as i have this week of work. On another subject, from another topic on the forum, some one mentioned about the Endeavour model. I have looked at the videos showing the build, it is double planked and looks a really smart build, i am so, so tempted to start that one also. Cheers Foz
