Is this model built with flat decks? I could not see amy camber but it could just be the pictures. Years ago I built the Heller kit and deck camber was obvious. The SM Victory looks like it has it and the Cross Section model clearly shows camber.

Looking at the official build the only two decks that have a camber are the ones at the stern . The four castle has a very slight camber but the main whether deck is flat. Hope this helps rgd Martyn Building ?

No the decks do not have camber to slow for free draining of shipped water, which I am guessing you are asking about? To be honest at this scale it would be fairly minor camber, but as you rightly say on a cross-section it tends to be shown for accuracy where as on a full kit it may not be detected Jase “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”

Thanks Martyn. I am getting interested in this model and my only concern is accuracy. Camber, or the lack thereof, is quite noticeable in a model of this size. I guess it could be added without too much trouble; scratch the deck beams, etc.

You could simply pad the deck beams in the middle a bit. The decks are flexible enough to accomodate this. One caveat about accuracy though: the ship was destroyed in 1692 and replaced by another ship of that same name in the same year. There's a lot of conjecture about what the ship looks like now that it's so many centuries later. Which is why there are so many different looking Soleil Royals about. Even Tannerons 1:40 model in Paris shows some marked differences to Berains designs.

No problem on ships of this period there is not a lot of camber to ship water just enough to get the water to the scupper . Hope you go for this ship as it looks stunning when finished Rgd Martyn Building ?

Hi Tom Missed this post as on I'm away on holiday. The decks don't have camber on the kit. But like you said if you give the beams a little bend you can create the camber. The beams are 5x5mm so are easily bent. The deck is very thin ply so is easily bent aswell. Its a great kit to build so would be a great choice for you to do. Chris On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.
