The Model Shipways USS Constitution kit is the most accurate available of this ship. The kit is based on the 1927 Navy drawings, photographs and documentation used during the 1993-97 restoration.

Plank-on-bulkhead construction features laser cut wooden parts. High quality basswood planking strips cover the hull and self-adhesive copper tape is included for the hull plating. True-to-scale Britannia metal, brass and hardwood fittings and 16 photo-etched brass sheets provide life-like detail. Over 50 cannon, carronade and gun barrels duplicate original armament. Extra touches include laser cut gratings and engraved scrollwork. Four-hundred yards of rigging line in six diameters is also supplied. (Display base and pedestals not included).

The kit includes a comprehensive 48 page instruction manual which also uncovers the secrets of building a museum quality replica, and eight sheets of detailed plans are also included.

A complete sail plan is provided. However, Constitution’s current six-sail configuration is the one she normally used in battle.
A few items on the real ship are not historic features. Modern additions include hull fenders, a lookout platform at the bow, and awnings to protect visitors from the elements. Although shown on the plans, they can be omitted for historical accuracy.

Model Length 48" - Height 32" - Width 16"

Scale 1:76.8 (5/32" = 1 ft).

Here are the first set of pics for this luscious ship.

Hello, I know this is an old post but I wanted to get in touch with someone who could point me in the right direction. I have a Model Shipways USS Constitution 48" model ship kit. It was my grandfather's. He also bought some very thin pieces of copper, presumably to line the ship with when he finished. I'm not quite sure what the kit and copper is worth but I think my dad and I will sell it. I can't see a price online got it since everyone seems to be sold out. Does anyone know if this is some sort of collector's item and what it would be worth?

In mint un-opens condition this kit would retail in the UK for about £530
It's not rare as such and is available to by still. http://www.modelexpo-onl...oduct.asp?ITEMNO=Ms2040

But if this kit is started it is worth a lot less

Hi, many thanks for raising this.

As Jase has already mentioned the kit is still available but with many of these kits produced in the USA they have not always been easily available in the uk.

I have bought several "large" items from overseas and if its usa based you get hit with tax and customs duties so that in itself adds to the item cost.

Cornwall model boats have fairly recently started to stock a range of these kits and this one in its latest incarnation can be seen here.

http://www.cornwallmodel...onstitution-MS2040.html

Hope you do not mine me making a suggestion and that would be if you intend to sell via ebay please make sure if you list as complete it really is (kit should have a parts list). Ebay and paypal "hate" sellers if the buyer complains you could see some unscrupulous person complaining for the sake of it and getting all of there money back.

Just a suggestion with winter fast approaching why not have a look through the forum to see what others are up to and maybe give the kit a try yourself? You really do not have to be a master modeller and there are never any timescales on building a model and do you know you might just find something that really gets your interest. Not just the model build but the history behind it all.

Knd regards

Tony
