Say that a few times after a beer or 2..ships sheer, ships sheer...

Not quite sure if this gonna make sense..BUT

Ive done 14 layers of planking, followed the instruction pretty much to the letter on 95% of the time, as I and along with many other here we have a number of book that are pretty much the bible's of Victory, modelling and the real thing.

As I've progressed the planking Ive seen something I like, I like a hell of a lot and thats the sheer of this ship. But one thing that gets me a little bothered is why the magazine seems to try and rid the sheer of the planks by tapering.

Ok, before you get angry and hit the reply button this is not meant as a dig at the build, instruction ect, but hopefully a discussion on the sheer and planking.

So why the post? well Ive marked the upper gun deck ports and have noticed how much of a sheer my model has...thats a good thing for me. I even bought the model downstairs and opened 3 books..Longridges, McKays and McGowan for reference and asked the wife her opinion.

After explaining to her what sheer is and explaining the instruction show the planks with minimal sheer she was no the wiser..huh...typical eh.

So this is where I am, asking your input, I dont think Ive made a cock up, BUT the gun ports marked seem to differ to the official build but follow pretty damn close to my 3 reference book..which is a good thing?

Just a quick run down of sheer for those not to sure.

Sheer means the longitudunal curve of a ships side in a fore and aft direction, which curve is concave upwards.The sheer is definitely one of the most important features which make or mar the beauty of a ship.

So my question, the bow gun ports marked look like they are sloping downwards to the bow, this is due to my planking and the sheer, is this going to be a problem, I'll take a picture tomorrow when the light is better as its only pencilled in.

I've not deviated from my original first plank Karl, I did follow the line of the first deck, just that I've continued with it and had minimal tapering as I wanted to have a more pronounced sheer of the planks.
As Im onto the last (well last but one) gun ports it shows up quite a lot, but seems correct against the books. I'm not unduly worried as I am happy with it but wanted to have some other opinions.

having just seen your post ref sheer have checked my model against your photos and mine is exactly the same as yours and I have followed the build as close as possible

well thats good to know, I guess its worth checking before cutting those holes.
