I'm finally ready to begin! I thought I was going to get started during the summer but I just never got around to starting. I'm finally ready. I've got boxes 1-5 out on my table and I'm getting ready to get started. There's one thing that's terrifying me though. That's Penny. Penny eats things. Things she's not suppose to eat. If you look back at the finished pics of my coffee table you see that I had some very nice SW coffee table books on the bottom shelves. Well, I had to remove them because she started eating them. Worse, whenever a package gets dropped off I have to make sure I get to it before Penny does. A few months back she got to one of the DeAgostini boxes, opened it, and started getting to work. It was blind luck that I looked out of our bay window and saw her trying to open one of the bags. Luckily, I got to her before she had opened the bag or damaged it. This is going to be exciting...

Welcome aboard! It's good to see another Falcon build log coming up. Looking forward to seeing how you approach her! If at first you don't succeed,
maybe you should skip the chainsaw juggling...

Not easy with a dog, but a safe room seems to be the order of the day. Here`s hoping that you can get on with your build and really enjoy the experience. Looking forward to your updates as you progress. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Welcome! I'm fairly new to the forum as well. This is truly one of the nicest, most supportive places on the internet! I am building mine with a number of parrots in the house. I have a constant struggle keeping the curious stinkers away from my stuff. It all works out. You can always scratch-build or scratch-repair almost anything. Again, welcome to this great forum.

I'm almost done with my work for the day. I've got some questions for those of you that have already gone through Issues 1-4. 1) To glue or not to glue? I'm just curious how many of you have glued pieces on, or just snapped them into place. The magazine instructions don't really mention anything about gluing. (I could be wrong, I tend to skim more than I should.) Everything seems to be snapping into place, but I don't like how the 2 tiny levers next to the control yokes fit. They're way too loose. I can see them easily falling out so I'm probably going to go ahead and glue those. 2) When I do glue, what kind of glue should I be using? 3) Top Turret Window Frame! I was watching Chris Falcon's build and he ended up popping out the window frame because he didn't think it was aligned correctly. Any opinions? I'm inclined to pop it out and line it up "correctly," I'm just wondering how many of you have done the same. Apparently, that frame shouldn't be lined straight up like that. It should be off to the side. So, any thoughts? 4) I've just finished attaching the hull plating TP-1 to the frame. The screws in the frame and the sliver screws for the hull are firm, but I didn't over-tighten them. Just how tight did you guys affix your black and silver screws? Well, that's it for tonight!

You WILL need glue. Not for everything, but for things that aren't screwed down, you will need it. I use a medium CA glue. Its a little easier to work with (IMO) than the thinner CA glues. As for the window, I popped mine out, but its best to go with what you're comfortable with. If you do decide to pop it out, go slow and steady. I've seen some builds where they've broken the window frame and had to make repairs. If at first you don't succeed,
maybe you should skip the chainsaw juggling...

Use a good CA glue (super glue) like Zap or Gorilla glue. When I put my frame together I left all the plates off until the entire frame was completed. On the black screws I used a drop of Loc-tite so that they wouldn't come loose. I moved my window to the correct position but I did end up breaking mine resulting in repairing it. Not a big deal just a little extra work. Check out others build logs also to get ideas and tips. Good luck with your build and live the coffee table. Most importantly, don't skim... lol. Take your time and read and plan. It will save you time and headaches in the end. Ron Best Regards, Ron

Just my opinion, but for moving the window around to the correct position, I think I'd only take that on if you are going all out on the mods, trying to replicate it to the max. Otherwise, why go through the effort and then skip out on the rest of the details. I just started this build, and have been thinking about whether or not to do the window mod, and leaning towards it, but I am also leaning towards fiber optics, and a ton of other highly detailed mods. I've got a 1/72 falcon to build to keep me busy and practice painting on while I wait for more issues to show up. Best of luck with the build, look forward to seeing what you decide to do for mods. First off, thanks for all the feedback!
To Mod or Not to Mod I've gone back and forth on this. I've seen some amazing mods, but I'm afraid most of these are beyond me. I do see items that some of you have bought from places like Shapeways and I may occasionally go down that route. For now, I'm going to play it by ear.
Thanks for the feedback on the glue. Right now, the only thing I have laying around is some superglue. I'll probably drop by Lowes or a hobby shop tomorrow after work and pick up some Gorilla glue.
I think I'm going to give the window a go. I'm getting ready to get to work on Box 2 and Issues 5-8 this afternoon. I'll also be going through some of the other builds on the forum. Wish me luck.

Looks like your finally getting stuck in, you will always find any help on here you need. Like a lot of us on the forum, we have made a few mods along the way, whether they are 3D printed, ready made mods or something you do yourself, you make it you own and I'm sure you will be no exception. So have fun, take you time and be inspired by fellow modellers like I have been. Oh, and your display case looks brilliant. Mark

Thanks MarkW! And thanks to everyone else for their advice on glue and mods. Well, it was driving me nuts so I went ahead and took a crack at the window. So, 30 minutes, an exacto knife, a Star Wars band-aid, and some hard work = victory! I was able to find a video from Scale Model Kit Review that showed how they removed the window and it was a ton of help. This may be all I get done today because I've been busy, but it was worth it. Good to see you getting going.
With regards to glue, I say that the best glue to use for any of the plastic or resin type pats is a MEK glue. This will give a much stronger bond than CA glue. CA glue just sticks the parts together whereas the MEK glue will dissolve the joining edges som they melt together, effectively welding them together.

I'm glad you did the window mod. The first mod comes with a sense of ability, and a little fearlessness when it comes to messing with things. Congratulations!

Glad you got yours out with no problems... I on the other hand ended up breaking mine as I was trying to pop it out. Ended up just getting the SW replacement which had the little tab in the right place for proper gluing. I guess they over glued my window frame in.

The window was a bit nerve wracking. I really didn't want to break it so I took my time and alternated between cutting with the exacto blade and pushing with the screwdriver. It was slow going, but worth it.
I'm getting ready to start on Issues 5-8 right now. Does anyone have any quick links or a website I can order glue from? Part of me just wants to go down to Lowes and pick up some Gorilla glue, but I know there's probably better and more appropriate alternatives out there.

I'm stopping halfway through Issue 6. I applied the stickers to Instrument Panel backings, but I'm not about to cut the control levers until I have a cutting tool I feel comfortable with. This may be all I get done until Friday or the weekend. I've got a Fantasy Football draft tonight, a softball game tomorrow night, and the NFL kicks off Thursday night. I will be checking on some other builds. I've got a lot of catching up to do on some of these threads.

Ah Saturday!!!! Done with the gym and I'm waiting for the wife and girls to get home. They're headed off to their weekly craft shop trip so I thought I'd tag along and see if I could find some glue and maybe some other tools, paint, or materials to help with the build. Then I plan on putting in some work late this afternoon and tonight. Not much of a college FB fan so tonight is a Falcon night.
I ordered a new rotary tool earlier in the week. It arrived yesterday. One of the things I wanted to try tonight was to mod the upper turret guns. I want to see if I can drill barrels into them. Wish me luck!
Almost forgot, Box 20 came in this week as well! I wonder if I'll be able to catch up before everything ships?

So nice. Jealous! jedieb wrote:Got the binder today and it arrived in great shape. I was expecting to receive issues 5-8 and their parts, but the binder was the only thing that arrived today. I guess this is typical of how month 2 has been arriving in the U.S.? Oh well, I'll be hitting the gym early tomorrow morning and then I'm off to my father-in-law's workshop to get back to work on the coffee table.
