So you have spent hours building your AFV, fine tuning all the details and getting the track sag correct and making the tyres look like they are carrying weight and now its time to paint! But what colour? Every kit manufacturer has a recommendation of what paints to use, Tamiya, Gunz, Vallejo, but are the colours correct? Are you brush painting or spraying? Well there is the first answer to your questions, as brush and spray will give you 2 different shades of the same colour! And that really answers all the questions in one go, there is no right or wrong colour! In the field paint was mixed and applied with various methods. The Germans mixed their paint with anything they could find, petrol, diesel, and was applied with brush, spray and even rags on a stick.
The next thing is the weather, where was your AFV? If it was in Africa then the sun would bleach the colours and the sand wear it away, if in wetter climates the rain would wash it but mud would cover it, and in places corrode it, in others preserve it.
The next thing is scale. Most modelers will lighten their paint with white to 'scale' the colour. Personally I never do that and use pre shade and weathering to get my effects.
So what does this all mean to you? it means that German grey can be many shades of grey and dark yellow can be the same, if it looks right to you that is all that matters.

Some interesting thoughts there Daran and absolutely right in all that you say. The most important thing at the end of the day is that the modeller himself is happy with his choice of colour, as it is his model, to be built and painted as he wishes and opinions are just opinions?

Well said my friend!!
