Looking for some experienced advice please ladies & gentlemen.
As..so far.. I am quite happy with my planking I am considering leaving the old girl au naturel rather than painting her(launch etc being an exception to this),to simulate the copper bottom I was thinking of mahogany planks instead of the bass wood provided.
My questions are
1:what does anyone else think of this colour choice(had considered walnut but its not red enough really)
2:How easy is mahogany to bend at the thicknesses we are using ie 2mm,I know walnut can be difficult to say the least.
The rest of the hull will be treated with stains, washes etc to simulate the banding if I decide to go ahead with it.
Many thanks for any input

Karl have you tried here http://www.modellingtimbers.co.uk/1.html

Dontshootme, 2mm walnut is quite tough for bending and sanding, that's not to say don't have a go, but if this is your first model you'd probably be better off staying with basswood which is much easier to work with, or go with a dark veneer plank.

Hi Karl

Constructo are fond of using Sapelli in their kits, but not sure where you can get extra sapelli timber.

You could try Premier ship models. They sell built models using sapele (different spelling) They might give you a clue as to where they get their supplies?
