I added the 5 inch guns and then added the second deck.I installed the wood decking on the second deck and started adding the details.

The 5 inch guns were designed to defend against torpedo boats. They had a limited elevation because they were in casements and they were prone to sea spray and were pretty much useless in rough seas.

On top of the second deck are mounted the anti aircraft guns.Once these are installed then it will be time to start adding the bridge and control towers.

Thanks everyone.Adding more details to the second deck and I have now started priming and painting some of the railings.I am going to install some of the railings on the bridge as I build it up since access will be difficult once the bridge is assembled.I generally leave off as much of the railings as I can so I dont accidentally damage them.

It is indeed an impressive build and a fitting commemoration of the 75th anniversary. Though I am puzzled that considering this ship is in the Top 10 of the world's most famous ships and is America's most visited shipwreck (2 million+ visitors each year), that this topic has failed to attract encouragement or support from our US members.. A stunning build Carl Cool

Until Tom mentioned it earlier I never really noticed the lack of US with this build, very puzzling

So after a couple of weeks of bending 9 million bits of VERY soft photoetched metal the railings and ladders are done on the bridge and control tower.next step is to touch up the paint, paint the control tower and add it to the ship. The smoke stack will then be added and finally the aft fire control tower-which of course has lots of railings and ladders tooCursing Cursing.

The KA photoetch is nicely detailed but REALLY soft. You get 2 bends in the metal and the it falls apart so you really have to be careful.making the curved railings around the lower portion of the bridge was quite a challenge.

Here are some pics of the bridge before I redo the paint.

Very nice work Carl. I find it a little eerie looking at the control tower like that as it's such an iconic part of the many images we see of the ship exploding up through the funnel with huge plumes of smoke and the control tower silhouetted against it?! Blink Scared

Very thought provoking!!
