Hi All
Just had this baby drop through my door and its a great looking kit. First outed by Tamiya in the 1970's these kits have been upgraded with new box art, improved parts and re'released with etch sets.
On opening the box you see Tamiya's usual standard of parts and the instructions but be careful here as the etch set is stuck to the inside of the box lid and could easily be missed still its a good way to prevent damage to the etch from the parts. In the corner of the lower box are 12 aluminium shaped intake trumpets for the engine.
The instructions are clear and of Tamiya's usual standard as are the sprue's with some very cleanly moulded parts with a wealth of detail and no flash, ejector pin marks are very minimal too. The tyre's are nicely moulded in rubber with some very nice tread detail. A bonus in the kit is the driver figure that is cast in solid plastic and looks very realistic.
The only detailing book I could find is the MFH RA300 book that has a wealth of detail pictures. The RA300 car was the Lola/Honda chassis design that greatly reduced the cars weight so some of the body work forward of the engine is slightly different from the RA273 although the running gear is similar and just made of lighter stronger components. The bonus from the book is in the engine details as that did not change both cars used the 3lt 12 cylinder Honda engine with the mass of spaghetti like exhausts sticking out the top.
All in all a very nice little kit with plenty of character.
