Stage 21

Your parts:- Leaf springs, Links, bushes, nuts and screws.

Take the leaf springs and make up three matching pairs, two with a short and a medium sized link,two more with medium sized links and lastly two with a medium and long links. Join all the leaf springs and links using 2 x 6mm screws and nuts .

Now take the assembled leaf springs and fit them to the equalising bars on the main frame starting at the centre wheel using the leaf spring with the two links of equal length, use four 4.5mm bushes and four 2 x 8mm screws and nuts to fix both in place.

Next fit the front leaf spring assembly using 4.5m bushes and 8mm screws and nuts on the medium length links and the two 3.5mm bushes and screws to fit the front short links.

Lastly fit the last leaf spring assembly to the rear equalising bars using the last two 4.5mm bushes this will leave the long links floating free, these will be fixed in position later in the build.

Stage 22

Your parts:- Second wheels, axle boxes, guards, bushes and screws.

Assemble the axle boxes and test fit them on the frame, once you are happy with the fit remove them. Now take the second wheel and fit two axle boxes to the axle making sure the washer is between the axle box and the wheel. Use a strip of masking tape to help hold the boxes in place.

Slide the wheel/axle box assembly onto the centre wheel well and then use two guards to fix the wheel in place using four 2 x 5mm screws. Disassemble the front wheel from stage 3 and the fix it in position the same way you fixed the central wheel in place.

Save any unused parts in a bag labeled with the stage number for future use.

Stage complete.

Stage 23

Your parts:- Third wheel, connecting rods, pins, bushes, axle box, axle guards, nuts and screws.

Fit the third wheel to the main frame the same way you fitted the other wheels in the last stage and once this is done using six 2 x 7mm screws fix the leaf springs to the axle boxes.

Next check the connecting rods for any flash and clean them up if needed then join the coupling rod and connecting rod together using a 2 x6mm screw and nut then do the same for the other set of rods.

Line up the coupling rod hole with the first wheel and use a short bush and pin to fix it to the wheel, do the same with the third wheel then line up the coupling rod with the stub axle on the second wheel and use a long bush on this wheel. Do the same for the other side.

Stage complete.

Stage 24

Your parts:- Connecting rods, eccentric rods, expansion plates, eccentric arms, wrench, bushes and screws.

Take the right cross head from stage 16 and slide the piston rod into the right side piston then add a bush to the crankpin. Place the connecting rod over the crankpin and bush and line the other end up with the crosshead. Once it is lined up use the crosshead front cover to keep it in place then fix it in position using four hex head screws. Do the same for the left side.

Use a 2 x 7mm screw on the large end of the eccentric arm then fit it onto the left side crank pin off setting it about 10 degrees forward of the vertical tighten the screw to fix it in place. Repeat the same for the eccentric arm on the right side.

Next take the expansion central plate and fix it to the eccentric rod using a 2 x 3.8 mm set screw, do the same for the other set so you have two pairs.

Save any unused parts in a bag labeled with the stage number for future use.

Stage 25

Your parts:- Radius rods, hanging links, connecting links, combination levers, spindles and screws.

Take the eccentric rod assemblies from the last stage and add the radius rods to each one fixing both in place with a 2 x 3.6mm set screw. Next take the inner and outer expansion plates and fix them in position over the central plates using 1.4 x 4mm screws making sure you have a left and right pair.

Next add a hanging link to the end of the radius rod next to the expansion plate, use a 2 x 3.6mm set screw to fix both arms in place.

Next make up the pair of levers consisting of the piston spindles, connecting rods and combination levers making sure again you have a left and right set of each. Fix both assemblys to the free end of the radius rod with a 2 x 4.5mm set screw.

Stage complete.

Stage 26

Your parts:- Motion plates, reverse shaft, reverse links and screws.

Place the reversing bar on the frame with the holes facing to the rear then insert the spindle into the upper piston and line up the expansion link inner stud with the hole in the motion frame. Use the outer motion frame plate to fix the expansion link and reverse shaft together. Fix the plate in position using two 2 x 4mm screws then use two 2 x 8 mm screws to fic the motion bars to the motion frame.

Next fix the eccentric rod and the hanging link to the crank and crosshead using the correct stepped screws. Do the same for the other side.

The left reverse arm link has the arm on it fix this to the left side reverse rod with a 2 x 2.4mm set screw. Take the central hanging link and fix it to the reversing link with a 2 x 4.5 set screw. Do the same for the right side.

Once everything is assemble test run the movement of the wheels if anything catches or the wheels are prevented from turning investigate and correct anything so you get full motion without the gear or wheels catching.

Stage 27

Your parts:- Truck frames, brackets, centre beam, guards and screws.

Join the centre beam to the two truck frames using 2 x 6mm hex head screws then attach the wider rear bracket to the frame again using 2 x 6mm hex screws.

Next fix the short front plate with the guards to the front of the frame using 2 x 6mm hex bolts.

Your parts:- Truck mount, links, stays, washers, centre pin and screws.

Take the truck mount and add the four links to it using four 2 x 3.8mm stepped screws making sure the screws are tight but the links still move freely.

Next take the truck mount assembly and add it to the truck frame using 2 x 3.8mm stepped screws again making sure the the truck mount has free movement.

Save any unused parts in a bag labeled with the stage number for future use.
