Am looking for a more efficient way of rubbing down the metal parts. Had thought about using a small wire brush attachment in a Dremel, has anyone tried this, or similar, and does it work ?

You could try it, though most tend to use emery paper, though be mindful that the brush is not to stiff/hard a metal so as not leave deep surface scratches or that any fine detail is worn away.

Thanks for that Tomick, another question though. Having joined the two halves of the bridge recently how do I get rid of the join lines ? There is no gap to fill really so what can be done ?

There will be a fineline joint gap, use a needlefile smooth the joint then apply filler and sand smooth.

Thanks again Tomick, that poses another question I have been told by some people that PVA glue mixed with sawdust is ok to use as filler, instead of quick drying glue such as epoxy resin. What do you recommend to use ?

Sawdust mixed with PVA as a filler for wood can be used, but its down to personal preference as to what you might use, there are lots of commercial model filler products available depending on what material you are filling. I'm not quite sure what you mean in saying 'instead of quick drying glue such as epoxy resin'?
You should use glue's best suited for each task, I used aliphatic resin for the wood build, epoxy for the major metal castings and superlue (Cyano) for the rest.

In which case I would not use sawdust mixed with PVA, for metal I use 'Squadron white putty' which is great for fineline filling and is fast drying/sands easily. Can be found here http://www.netmerchants....dellers_white_putty_65g
