Hi all,

Just spent some time looking at my complete MP4-23 and I noticed almost immediately that the front and rear carbon Fibre Transfers have turned green, it looks really odd and spoils the model somewhat. Anyone else got this issue?

I have attached some pictures.

Comments welcome

Thanks

Michaelfns

This title initially ran its course in 2012, not a single report since of the carbon decals having turned green.

OK that's fine. What are you thoughts on the colouring on my pictures?

What has caused this to happen?

Now thinking I have to paint them black again as they just look odd!

The only thing that comes to mine is if the decals have been subjected to any strong light that could have caused some fading of one of the pigments in the decal colour dyes.

Happy Modelling

Over time, Sunlight will certainly affect decal colour and as already mentioned, strong light too. Possibly something has reacted with these decals, be it the underlying black paint or the application of a decal solution or clear coat.

Hello there.

I just looked at my McLaren and the decals have also turned green.
I hadn't noticed it before.
My model is also in a case, and not in any sunlight.
Funnily enough, I quite like the green, even if it isn't quite right.
I love the model though and will leave well alone.

Excuse the pic quality - I just took them with a cheapie camera, through the display case.

Roy.

Strangely mine has as well, like Roy mine is in a case and well away from sunlight.
I know when I moved house 7 months back they still looked fine as I emptied the showcase to move it.

Where my showcase is now positioned the colour change is not as noticeable so will leave it as.

Thanks for the responses all.

Mine has been in a expensive display case for some time now in the middle of our lounge, away from any windows.

I know some of you are OK with the green but I am not so much.

It just looks odd and for a model that is supposed to be replica standard its very disapointing.

I am kind of with you on leaving it alone as i am not a modelling expert and if i try to paint or something else there is danger I might damage / ruin the model further.

Be interesting to see how many others like this are out there.

Did you use a decal solution or clearcoat the decals, it could be a long term reaction with what ever was used?

I didn't use any decal solution but did give them a coat of Mr Hobby B-501 which is water based.

I've not used anything on my model.

Applied the transfers using water only.

If you email sales@model-space and request issues 65 & 66 they will send you a replacement set of carbon decals free of charge.

Just read this and had to go and look at mine, and yes mine have also turned greenCrying Crying

Strange as mine is in a display case that stops a lot of uv light, and I never coated mine with anything. Plus it's in my work shop which only get daylight when I'm out there as the blind are closed when I'm not in there.

Oh well sent an email asking so let's see what happens, only worried that if I replace them will it happen again. Might have to see at finding some others. Confused

Because of the 4 year elapse it's not something that could have been gauged., think I would consider going the aftermarket route, though I suppose no guarantee these won't fade or change colour over time.

Can they just be removed by wetting them? Mine are not green yet but I built mine much later then most people but I might remove them if they do go green.

It depends if you have clear-coated them or not. If not you can use 'Micro Sol' which is a decal softening agent.

This video tutorial should help..
