Started work on the petals. The upper and lower parts of the time ring have 2 rows of petals. These are made of clear resin. There was a ton of flash on the clear resin and on the parts that hold the clear parts. So I have started cleanup and test fitting of the petals. All 36 of them Cursing Cursing

The supports for the petal are now glued to the center wheel and out rim. This will get a final sanding and then off to paint. There is a second ring that sits on top of this one that I am working on next and then I have to repeat the whole procedure for the lower ring.

I have sussed it. I know why you are building the time machine. Once completed you are going to use it to go back and tell yourself not to build the Jupiter

Thanks everyone,
interesting you talk about time Gil.When I ordered the kit a couple of years ago it went missing in the mail.It somehow ended up at Paypals headquarters. Paypal refused to send it back to the sender and said it has been destroyed .Randy sent me another kit.2 years later he received the original kit in the mail.Where it had been for 2 years is a mystery.Maybe it was stuck in a time warp!

Anyway the second wheel and row of petals has now been assembled and test fitted onto the first ring.next step is to paint everything and then attach the "glass" petals. These are made of clear resin.

Cheers Andy.

There is an actuator arm that attaches to each of the petals of the first ring. They are resin castings and have a pretty big pour stub.I am impressed by the molding, but getting them off the pour stub without damage proved very difficult.I was lucky to only break one out of the 18 actuators.

Now I am test fitting one of the outer rings of petals. The petals are made up of a clear resin piece and the frame.of course the petals dont fit into the frames well so it has taken quite a bit of fettling to get them to fit.nest step is to do the second out ring and then repeat the process for the main ring of petals. There is still a ton of work to do here. Not sure if this will make the build competition deadline.

It'll be a shame not to hit the deadline but understandable if it means carrying on with the high standard of work you've already put in to this Cool

Cheers Dave,
I have now finished the outer rings with petals. The main rings are also done so now I have to make 18 petals to attach to the main rings and then the 2 rings on the left attach to the central ball and act as a base for the 2 rows of petals.

Thanks Phil,
the time rings are finished.there is a scale etched onto the rings.it was poorly defined on the resin parts so I sanded off the scale and used a decal made by a friend to make the scale.I also added copper tape around the edge of the ring.
