Hi All,

That’s it for Issue 104.

Fitted the Foot ropes and the sails to the Spritsail yards. It’s a great feeling to finally be fitting the sails. Things are progressing at a decent pace again.

This issue took about 4 hours to complete.

Kind regards,
Garth

Hi All,

Started 105.

Added the foot ropes to the yard and attached the blocks to the sail. I then sewed the sail to the yard.

Everything went pretty much per the instructions.

Looking forward to fitting the yards to the masts.

Well that’s it for now.

Kind regards,
Garth

Hi All,

Made some progress on Issue 105 this weekend.

Fitted the Fore yard and sail.

I have been indecisive as to waxing the thread or not. As I have not done it from the start of the rigging, my concern is that the difference may be too apparent.

Anyway, I have a stash of beeswax left over from my shooting days and I decided to give it a run on the controlling lines of the Fore Sail. I am really pleased with the results. I wish I had waxed all the threads from the start.
My only concern is whether the white glue will still hold the knots.

Kind regards,
Garth

Excellent job on the rigging. I have waxed the thread in the past as I find it makes it a lot easier to thread it through the blocks and have never had a problem with the glue not adhering. I don't know if it actually sticks to the thread or just gets in all the crevices and prevents the knot from slipping but it seems to work.

Hi Graeme, Walter and John.

Thank you for looking in and for the kind words of inspiration.

Thanks Graeme for your advice on the white glue. I really don't want to use superglue for this as the overall appearance of the thread is so much better once the beeswax has been applied.

Kind regards,
Garth
