Happy New year everyone. I am confused and not due to the amount of drink consumed last week..... I am planking the stern and pic no 8 says fit a plank from frame 26 to the stern of the model--all done then it says on No 11 fit another plank from frame no 25 to the stern of the model. That means that it overlaps the previous plank. Looking ahead at the pictures the rows of stern planking finish in an even line. It does the same on pic 13 where the third row of planking starts at frame 24. I hope this makes sense to you all as I am totally confused.. Any help is very much appreciated. Regards Pam

Hi Pam, a very happy new year to you, the planks running 26 to stern, 25 to stern and 24 to stern are fitted in the normal stagger pattern as follows which create's the first step up:
At step 6 you need to make a pencil mark as shown, where at step 7 the planking starts from the pencil mark and runs to frame 26, where you then add a plank from 26 to the stern.
The next plank runs from the pencil mark to frame 25, then a plank from 25 to the stern.
The next plank runs from the pencil mark to 24, then a plank from 24 to the stern.
The start of the second step up is at step 15 after making a pencil mark as shown at step 14.

happy new year to u all..i believe that this model needs to be second planked..there has been alot of problems with the first planking from a few builders..tapering..trimming planks that really shouldnt be tapered or trimmed in various places..it looks nothing like what it should look like with only one planking and being a novice/intermediate build i think my decision to second plank was the right decision cheers benny

The original Artesania Victory was not designed to be second planked hence why the partwork model has followed suit; if second planking and are a novice builder you need to be very mindful that its not a case of just adding a second layer, it depends on thickness and how adding a second layer also interact's with the existing build and what is to come where you may well find fit problems come to light as a result.

i will second plank after the wales are fitted and the rails ,gallery and all the other bits, i feel it will give a tidier look to it overall..it is a £720 build..i dont believe you can get the lines of the planks, the joins and so forth with only single planking...after the outside of the hull is completely fitted out, add the second planking/veneer in 80mm strips or whatever the scale is upto the wales and rails and you have a very nicely finished ship..0.5mm thick planks wont make any difference..give it a sand and you have 0.3mm thick veneer cheers benny
