Hi all

I've just received my Trumpeter HMS Hood 1/200 scale and cannot believe the size of this thing!

I've attached a photo of the box (up against a door to show perspective) the hull is the same length bar a few mm,and has nearly 1500 parts.

I've never made a ship this big and if anyone has any painting tips
I'd be grateful, thank you.

Regards.

Alan

Hi Alan,
Looks great mate. I got Iowa and Missouri to make in same scale. Look forward to your updates on your build. As for painting I used a rattle can primer then airbrush for too colours. It takes a while to do. The hull bottom is best done in white ensign hull red. It's the nearest you'll get but it's enamel.

Chris.

Hi Shaun

Its massive! I'm really looking forward to getting started on it.

I've been waiting a long time for the HK Models 1/32 Lancaster (taking ages to come out) and then the Hood appeared so I decided to go for it!

Regards

It's certainly a beast of a kit Drool

When I get mine I will be using Lifecolor acrylics, they do two different WWII sets

I haven't decided yet if I'll use a rattle can primer or my usual Badger Stynylrez primer through the airbrush

I will be watching this with interest.I used acrylics (Vallejo) on my Trumpy Arizona because it was too big for my spraybooth. Are you planning to correct the inaccuracies? There is a website that goes over all of the problems with the kit.Are you going to use and aftermarket sets?

Can't wait to get started!

Probably wont upgrade or modify her but will just focus on doing a good job
with what I've got in front of me.

With regard to painting the decks, my plan was to paint them black then teak and gently rub so the plank joins show through. Are there any other ways of doing it?

Carl, Hi, I will be using Tamiya colours mainly using aerosol cans
and airbrush the colours that aren't available in aerosols.

Dave,Hi, thanks for the links. I've found the HMS Hood website. There is a lot of really useful info there.

Will post pics when construction starts.

Regards to all

Hi Alan, I will be watching your build with interest. The HMS Hood Association web site is a great source of info and as Carl said it goes into great detail over the Trumpeter kit.

Hi Graeme

I will be checking the website-thank you. Whilst I'm not that confident at weathering etc, I will make every effort to make a good job of it, I'm particularly looking forward to painting the deck with a bit of detail.

Regards

Alan
