Hi Everyone, I am experiencing paint bleed under the roundel masks, they don't seem to stick very well to the colourcoats paint that I'm using. Has anyone any experience in this because one repaint is enough. Alec Built: Bluenose, Arab Dhow, HMS Bounty, Hummer H1, D51, Spitfire,E type Jaguar. In Progress: HMS Victory, , Yamaha YZR-M1

Apply a satin clear coat around the edges of the mask and leave to dry, then paint as normal the clear coat will seal the edges so you get a crisp line when the mask is removed Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Thanks Andy, I'm air brushing the paint so I guess brush the varnish by hand? Alec Built: Bluenose, Arab Dhow, HMS Bounty, Hummer H1, D51, Spitfire,E type Jaguar. In Progress: HMS Victory, , Yamaha YZR-M1

Alec,
You should be able to spray the varnish on, but if you are having a current issue with paint bleed from the spray application, hand applying with a brush will give you more control and a better seal on the mask.
One caution - make sure that the varnish and the color you are using are compatible (test the paint stack up first on scrap) otherwise laying down the varnish first may lead to adhesion issues for the color and create a color void in this area and cause you more rework.
Hope this helps - Good luck,
Jim
