Hi all.
Thanks for your comments :)

I have lined the inside of the windows in these pictures and added the surround on the cabin and given them a quick rough coat over with paint. I will touch up neater when final painting.

Chris mate, that looks superb, I guess this is where we will be in a few issues with the gallery of the victory, watching this with interest.

Hi Colin,

The reasoning behind my madness is, the A/L version is a mash up of the real Surprise, the book surprise and the Film Master and commander. The Pics of the ship a real on-line are of the remade HMS Rose. It got renamed HMS Surprise after it was in the film. The Jotika version is modelled on the actual ship the L'Unite which was French and was captured by us and renamed HMS Surprise.. It carried carronades all round as the A/L version has Cannons all round..

I am trying to copy the Jotika as near as possible. The gun ports are in the proper position aswell as I got a drawing of the L'Unite and traced it onto this one. There is a massive difference to where they are on the A/L version.

Yes the A/L version is nice but I wanted to challenge myself lol...

In that case chris, go with the Jotika, I'm understanding it now.

As for the challenge, I've got one of those as we speak, lower hull planking with 3mm is a nightmare, but worth it, just as yours will be.

Looking absolutely fantastic Chris! Always an inspiration to see your progress!

I've been so busy recently I've had no time for modeling but finally managed to get some done this christmas holiday so am firmly back on the horse! Just 4 more gunports to finish up and I'll get some photos uploaded.

Then on to the hull planking so I will be using your excellent pictures and explanations as a guide!

Keep up the excellent work!

Jonny.

Hi All,

I have a little update, Here are the latest pics of my ship I have installed the whale and the rubbing strakes on one side, like I have mentioned before I am trying to replicate the Jotika Prototype so the A/l instructions have been ignored and I have used the Pics off the Jotika site to guess where they would go. As the original plans don't show the strakes position.

Hi, Thanks BennyBigGrin

I have now started the cannons but have got to order the rigging thread as the A/l stuff is rubbish. Also some brass blackener for the barrels.

The first pic is bare wood , the other pic they have a coat of Danish oil.

Hi All,

I got my Brass Blacker from cornwall models, and here are my first results. I am very please with them. My second batch were darker which i will use on the deck areas that are seen.

And the last pic is my Ships stove ready for fitting..

Hi magpie
Just got my first parts for HMS Surprise and just wanted to ask a question,
Can you tell me what dimentions of planking for the hull you used and where you got them.
Also may i tell you that your build is one of the finest i have see with attention to detail and what made me subscribe to this fine vessel.
Builds in progress: HMS Victory.HMS Surprise.
Completed builds: Revell London Bus 1/24.
Builds to do:Sovereign of the seas, Hms Albion.

Thanks Mike and Petpole for your nice comments.

@Mike I have bought the first endeavour issue and am impressed with the quality. The parts are flat and are thicker than Victory.

@Petpole You get the planks for the whole hull in the subscription, What I did was replace the Sapele one's supplied with walnut. they were 2x5x1000 planks from CMB. The decks were 1x5x500 Tanganyka from Online-Hobbies.

Hope that helps..

I am replacing many items on the Ship. Also adding many items.

The ships stove isn't included but from CMB made by CC. The Rigging thread for the cannons is also CC.
