hi willz, merry christmas, this in my opinion is a must have tool, the blade is double edged, but not only that, after you've cut 1000 planks, and it's getting blunt, you turn the blade around not over, you start again, then when that is blunt you turn the blade over, you get four turns in all, before you change the blade,if you noticed ,on my build that Ido 45degree splice joins, that tool doe's it with ease, the reason I do that is,both parts of the splice cover the whole of the bulkheads thus giving you more the adhere to.some of amati tools are worthless(shroud rigger)but this is worth it,straight cuts every time.the blades are heavy duty, and cut the hardest of wood, Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

merry christmas tomick,I considered that version, but the cutting blade stays fixed, the amati one you swivel the cutter, much quicker, and as the 45degree is at the end of the stop you don't even have to look to see if it's 45 degrees.so I decided on the amati.what I will say at this point is,the cut is slightly pushed in, as it would be if you used a knife,if you want a true cut you use the razor saw and block, which I use for the thicker wood. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

Hi Karl, I have the Amati cutter, and can only ditto what you've said about it, I just highlighted the other version as being a cheaper alternative.
Happy Christmas to you and all the best for 2011

Karl
That looks great, i really like the veneer that you are putting on. I was going to paint mine but after seeing how yours is turning out im having 2nd thoughts and thinking about getting veneer myself now.
Quick question. Are you goining to do the entire hull in the same colour veneer?
Keep up the great work

Hi karl! I see you've been working hard veneering, I started veneering the lower hull yesterday and it is going well, you should find the lower hull easier with the second layer of planks mate. Well it looks like you’re having fun! Keep up the good work!
