Hi and welcome to the forum. BigGrin You have 2 superb kits to choose from, and for build quality I could not say as they are both superb. I would choose by the finish. If you like lots of brass and shine, go for the D51, if you want a painted finish, to look like a replica, then the C57. I am collecting the C57, but ultimately the choice is yours. I hope that has been of some help, and I look forward to seeing your choice and a build diary. BigGrin

BigGrin Hi Gentlegiant

Welcome to the forum, I have built the D51 and am currently building the C57 both are great kits but the D51 is now no longer available as a subscription.

There are a few D51 kits available but only as a buy the full kit option so if you want the D51 get it quick before there all gone.

Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi Gentlegiant,
welcome to the forum.I am forum support for USA/Canada so let me know if I can help in any way.

I have built the D51 train and it is a spectacular model once finished. The C57 is very similar. The major difference is that the C57 is prepainted. The D51 comes in an unpainted brass finish. Some people have built it and left it without paint and it looks amazing, but it does require some careful handling during construction so you dont get fingerprints or grease which can tarnish the brass surface. I painted mine. There is quite a bit of painting to do and it is a very large model so be prepared if you decide to paint it.Either way you will have a spectacular model to display once finished. Construction is quite easy with very good parts fit. Most of the train screws together, but you will also need epoxy and superglue for some parts. The instructions guide you step by step with very clear pictures of each stage and this is a very friendly forum and many of us would be happy to answer questions if you need help during the build.

Carl

PS here are a couple of pics of my finished d51

Hi Gentlegiant, welcome to the forum. I built the D51 and left it as the brass finish - it looks amazing. I just used surgical gloves when handling the brass parts during the build.

Enjoy whichever one you decide on.

Welcome to the forum Gentlegiant Cool

Both models are pretty much assembled in the same manner so it's really down to the finish that you prefer, either way I don't think you'll be dissappointed

Welcome to forum Gentlegiant. I am sure you are at the right place. The choice is obviously yours. I choose the D51 purely for its bling. Bling always tends to draw attention. Good luck with your build. See you in the members build section.

No I used automotive paints from a spray can and I handbrushed the small details.
