Hi All, BigGrin

Thanks again for the interest shown.

So the next update.

The hull halves finally join up.

Have to say, one of the easiest hulls I`ve ever put together and this is a "Biggun".

Three internal bracing parts and lots of locating pins and holes are the reason, but you still need to be a bit brisk as there`s a lot of area to join up.Blink

Some very minor filling sorted any minor gaps and a respray of joint was all that was needed. Phew !!

Whilst that all set and dried, it was down to some more sub-assemblies of the Island and smoke stack,(these are now up for priming)and made six AA guns consiting of five parts (three plastic/two brass etch - one shown).

This build is now going into a mixture of very small plastic/etch parts. So I have moved away from a single plastic or metal primer and will be using a dual purpose primer. (Has to save me a lot of time)

Next update coming soon.BigGrin

There is always a worry if the two parts will go together well with a two part hull but you don't seem to have had any issues with this at all. Merit do make some fantastic kits, Great job! ThumpUp

Hi All, BigGrin

Thanks for looking in and comments left.Cool Cool

So far things have all been a good fit.

Lets hope it stays that way.Blink

First pic is of the inside of the hull showing some very sturdy bracing pieces that keep the hull sides nice and straight.

Anyway on to the next update:

Fitting of the forward and aft lower decks.

First had to fit a few small parts like bollards, paint and then try and paint in the minute anchor chains.once the decks are installed there are two inner bulk heads to paint and fit, more fidley railings and some partitions.

Next job was to assemble and fit eight of the ships guns, four forward and four aft.

I`ve painted the main deck and the next job is to fit it. This is where I could do with another good fit.Blink

Hi All, BigGrin

Here`s the latest update:

With such a sizeable deck I was expecting maybe an issue or two,(but credit to Merit the manufacturers), with just a minor amount of pressure the fit was excellent.

The component parts of the Island are coming together nicely.

Each side of the hull has some fiddley little detail parts.(Those shown are replicated for the opposite side).

Then finally for this update, one of the eight cranes that are mounted to the hull sides. I will mount the crane platforms, then mount the cranes to get them in the correct position. The reason being that the hull sides where they are mounted are at varying angles and I`d like to get all the cranes vertical.

Thanks for looking in.Cool

Hi All, BigGrin

Thanks to all who looked in and the comments. Cool

Update time:

Hull bottom painted and lined the sides

Painted and fitted all the Prop shafts and props

Painted the flat black deck marks. All the other deck markings are decals, so more on that later.

Now to get on fitting the pre-built bits and pieces.

Derek

That is a very nice looking model indeed and I can understand why it sold out so quickly.

Very nice job on the paint work.

Looking forward to seeing how the decks looked on these older ships so keen to see your next update on that bit.
Happy Modelling
