this is the latest on my build. The crate has been assembled, stained and varnished and the davits placed. I made the ropes by wrapping them round one of the dowels and then started on the buckets. These proved to be difficult as the top of the buckets chipped on inserting the wire handle. This happened to the first three. Obviously practice makes perfect as i managed the last two successfully! The bowsprit and some more deck furniture has also been fitted. However still enjoying this build, maybe because although mistakes have been made, I am not aware of major mistakes. Enclosing a couple of photos to show progress so far. Regards Xander xander attached the following image(s):

Xander That is a beautiful model you have underway there. The kit is very attractive but still takes some skill to get the best from it and you have that skill. Its going to look fantastic when finished. Happy Modelling

Carrying on with my build the mizzen mast has been shaped and fitted. The canopy has been placed ( to the best of my ability), the mizzen sale placed and its rigging started. xander attached the following image(s):

So far the build has been relatively straight forward but now problems started to occur. The main sail and yard do not appear to be aligned as accurately as i would have liked. There were then further problems with the rigging. I personally found both the written instructions together with their photographs a little unclear and a bit confusing.I have had to take a little bit of artistic licence when doing the rigging as you can probably see from the following photos. However, almost finished and I am now turning my thoughts as to what to build next. At the moment it is a toss up between Occre's HMS Revenge or the Caldecraft HM Schooner Pickle. Both are similarly priced and as my level of experience is limited I don't as yet want to build anything more ambitious or expensive. Any suggestions? xander attached the following image(s):

Another very nice update, she's looking great and a job well done.... . Looking at the standard you have produced then I would say you could take on something such as the Soleil or the Victory..... the instructions are certainly a lot clearer and take you through everything step by step..... Regards Alan

I would certainly agree with Alan if you like something over the top with lots of carving the Soleil is the one for you but if you like a classic ship with a lot of history then the Victory, both have very good instructions. Hope this helps rgd Martyn Building ? Completed. Soliei Royal . Sovereign of the Seas . Virginia . Scotland . San Felipe . Corel vasa , Santisima Trinadad X section , Vasa Next Build ? Well after 3 months my Sultan and with it my first build log are now finished. A thoroughly enjoyable build, and if one wanted to build a small and not too complex a build, this is the one I would definitely recommend. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that followed this build log and in particular to thank Alan for his build log as I was looking at it and learning from it on a daily basis. I would also like to thank Alan and Martyn for their kind words and for suggesting that building the Victory is within my technical ability. However as we hope to move house in the next few months I am first going to build Occre's HMS Revenge and then when we have moved and settled inI will order the DeAgostini Victory. I would like to start the Revenge in the next few days and I hope also to start my second build log. Regards to all Xander xander attached the following image(s):

Very nice build i must say. Seeing your revenge build might just get me back into mine which due to work has stalled somewhat. Have a week off now so planning on putting some more time in. Hope the start of your build goes well. Happy Modelling
