I have hit another question that experienced modellers may be able to answer from their previous builds.
I have mentioned that I intend to paint my ship however I still want to plank as if I were going to stain/varnish the hull which is the reason I am not pinning the planks during gluing.
However whilst shaping each plank to deal with tumblehome and any other lumps and bumps to achieve a nice tight fit, it occurred to me that after filling and rubbing down, and then painting that it will be likely that the individual planks will no longer be visible. This is what happened on the launch build.
Now I know that if I copper the hull the planks will be lost anyway but they are visible on the lady herself above the water line.
Just wondering if anyone has dealt with this issue before?

hi ..i have mentioned this on my build a few times and my self and son of bulwark talked about it on his build..so check our build diaries out maybe it will help...benny cheers benny

z8000783 hi,one way to achieving the plank look,is to veneer the top half after you have done your filling and sanding,just give the veneer a light sand then sanding sealer then paint,should see the plank lines ok. Thanks for the suggestion but this is my first real build and I have enough challenges as you may have noticed. I really am not going down the veneer track just yet.

Hi Jason I have just laid the first 2 planks of layer 2. However as I said, I am aiming to achieve natural finish quality when I am done. On track so far. John

I have found this also. I have done a bit of sanding as I went along so as not to have too much at the end.I am worried about just how much we have to take it back. Jimmy L.
