Looking great Tony.
I have just started my build so I need you to show me how it's done. If mine is half as good as yours I'll be thrilled.
So keep on with the good work.
All the best

That is very kind of you indeed but from what I saw of your Sultan build I think I will be learning from you as that was a really good one.

This Occre kit does have a few issues to watch out for and once my planking is complete the next hurdle for me will be to replace the prow, stern post and keel as in the kit I purchased they have used the most awful piece of cheap ply and they have stained it but it looks terrible.

Its interesting because The Occre Train Kit Adler had some major fit issues and I see that they have just re-issued a modified version of that kit.

All in all though I think this is a kit that with a little effort will build into something really nice for the price.
Happy Modelling

It might be a slow build Tony but it does look extremely neat and will, I'm sure, finish into a stunning finish Cool

I think your doing a great job Tony BigGrin like the idea of soaking the planks pinning them till dry then you get minimal shrinkage and very small gaps if anyCool excellentDrool regards Phil

Tony
I think you have summed this kit up perfectly in your last post with your last three words ie for the price.
If this kit more expensive then it would be disappointing to work with some of the wood provided.
I am using the supplied ramin strips to plank the decks even though their edges are a bit jagged. I don't think it will be that noticeable but when I finish the planking I will enclose photos and you can tell me if I should have bought better quality wood.
Regards
Xander

Hi Tony, your method of soaking the planks and then letting them dry before glueing maybe slow but the end results are going to be worth it I'm sure. It is looking fantastic so farCool

Saturday 07th January 2017 - Hull Planking now Complete BigGrin

Well after one of the worst Christmas times ever with some "weird" disease I contracted my best laid plans were somewhat delayed but I finally managed to finish the second planking on the hull of my Revenge.

Still some plank end trimming to be done and some (but really pleased its minor) final smoothing down to do.

This part of the build seems to have taken a "forever" and I never thought I would get to this stage with the kit. To say I am pleased would be the understatement of the year.

I really struggle with hull planking and my methods of soak, pin, dry, remove, glue is not a quick process but in this case I am pleased with the port and starboard symmetry I have managed to achieve.

Any filling is really minor and I will use sawdust from the walnut planking sanding mixed with glue to fill any minor areas.

Here are some final pictures from this part of the build. BigGrin

Your method of planking may have been a long drawn out process but the end result certainly speaks for itself, outstanding ThumpUp
