Hello, My name is Bud and am a new member in the US. I have been looking at this wooden HSM Victory kit for about two years now and nearly ready to buy the full kit version. I joined here before purchasing to see if any problems persist or if there were any unresolved complaints and I must say I have found none and am very impressed with this forum, for it's activity and support level. I am currently building Revells 36" plastic kit of the USS Constitution, moving happily along, resolving any problems (surely have some) on my own. I previously built Mamoli's 15" solid wooden hull Captain Morgan and very pleased with my result. I enjoy doing the rigging the most. I also built HobbyBoss's 1/35 AAVP-7A1 Amtrak because my son was in the Marine Corp. :-) Again, happy with my result. I also photo diaried all my builds; mainly for my own use. But this forum has more in the way of support than I've had for any of my builds and that's very reassuring. So, I'll just be following along, watching and learning until I can make the purchase. Any advice on buying the full kit versus increments would be appreciated. A little background: I'm very comfortable getting the full kit because I have time (mostly), I am an ME (AAS), I have 13 yrs of precision steel fabrication, I have a couple successful model builds, I have 15 yrs IT Tech support and have good organizational skills. As a fabricator, I like seeing the whole plan before I start so I can plan my process and to also work ahead. But I understand with a build with this many parts there may be some issues I can't see. Hello Bud and welcome to the forum. The Victory is a fantastic kit, and although it is not one I have built myself, the diaries from other members who have are outstanding and the support you will receive here is second to none. Look forward to seeing your build, and enjoy.

Welcome to the forum Bud, like Nemesis has said the Victory is a great kit and there is a wealth of ship builders on the forum who are very helpful.
The instructions are first class and the official build compliments them. As there are a fair few models of Victory complete in the members builds and finished build gallery there is certainly lots for you to view before you get started on her.

Welcome to the forum Bud, hope you enjoy your stay If you have the means to get the full kit in one go then go for it, you'll have everything there ready to go at your own pace. I suppose some people might get a bit overwhelmed by getting it as a full kit and prefer the smaller monthly instalments.

Welcome to the forum Bud, you've certainly come to the right place for advice and assistance should you need it. The Victory is a great kit and if you take it as a full kit then you'll everything there for when you need it rather that waiting for parts to arrive. There is no difference in the build between the full kit and instalment version. Thank you, everyone, for the warm response. If I can contribute a small portion of what I've received already, I'll be a happy man. My presearch correctly indicated that this was a good group. With this kind of backup, even as a noob modeler, I'm confident in a good result with my Victory. I was looking at a mid Feb purchase but I can't take my eyes off the Christmas pricing! ha ha ha We'll see. Again, thanks all. Bud

Hi Bud, if you're seriously thinking about it and you found a good deal, then go for it. It is a great build and the video instructions are brilliant together with terrific support from the builders here.

Hi Team, I have a serious question. I'm ready to buy but I just recently got a look at the Sovereign of the Sea and I love it too. But the SoS looks like a LOT of detail painting. Any comments on some build differences in the two ships? Thank you Bud

Maybe I'll stick with the Vic. Just read about some issues with getting some of the back guides for SotS that doesn't reassure me. Hope to be putting my order in for the Vic tomorrow!!! I'm so anxious!! LOL

Hi Bud, I have only built the Vic which is, in most opinions the easier build. There is much more ornamentation on the SOTS but these are generally painted before they are fitted to make things easier Either way, they are both great kits! Steve

Hi Zarth the Vic has the best instructions of any ship builds out there but the SotS has very good instructions I built this as my first build and the carvings make this ship stunning. Both are brilliant kits . Which ever one you choose I am sure you will have a great time building it Martyn Building ?

Hi Bud, both are excellent kits and there are many build diaries on this forum on both builds to help you along. Having built both, I would say the Victory is by far the easier of the two and the instructions are the best out there. If you follow the instructions, the Official build and the Video build then you'll end up with a great display piece. The SOTS does have a lot more detailed ornamentation, all requiring painting but the instructions take you through the painting steps too.... There are also a great many members on this forum, all with varying skills and experience who are only too willing to advise and assist if needed. Anything you're unsure of you simply need to ask and someone will answer. Finally, I would strongly recommend you consider publishing a build diary of your progress, this helps us to ensure any errors or mishaps are picked up and dealt with early before they turn into something major.... Whichever kit you choose I wish you luck on the build and look forward to seeing your progress.... Regards Alan
