Hi All as this is my first attempt at a wooden model of this calibre i thought i would go for the Trafalgar livery the is a couple of spots where filler will be required lol my question is do i have to keep the outline of the planking prominent? ie all the joints or if i was to go for the double planking option what dimensions of veneer would be used? Hi Allan! If you choose to double plank sand the hull smooth to get a good surface for the glue. The veneer used to double plank is 0.5mm x 5mm as this bends easily you don't need to chamfer the planks due to the thinness of the planks and use a contact adhesive.

Thanks for that, that seems to be the number 1 option but would still like to know about the planks if using filler and painting the hull do i have to score the filler to show the edges of the planks or can the the joins between planks be filled in??

H Allan
If you are double planking the whole hull the filler will not show, it will be hidden under the 2nd plank veneer. However, if some of the hull is left single planked with filler showing then yes score the filler to immitate a plank joint.
My own prefered hull finish will be natural wood. After all the work I will do on the build I will want people who view it to know it is a wooden model. If painted, what is under the paint? plastic, epoxy !!!
