Hi Guys
I need suggestion on how to get the end nails angled in order to add planking to the ship, it's funny I heard or read that angling the nail keeps the plank from splitting on the contrary it splits when you do angle the nail, If I'm suppose to angle the nail how many MM do I set the nail back from the ends, plus I'm having trouble keeping the nails in the nail pusher any recommendation would be most appreciated thank you

Hi Ronald,
I'm not 100% on where you mean and what you mean with angling the nails, but one tip to use with the planking is try to drill a pilot hole of around 0.5mm in the plank which will stop the plank splitting as well as helping to pin them.

I don't understand how you can not understand what I mean Chris the instructions and video plainly ask that you angle the nail to keep the plank from splitting, but it splits when you do angle, it but I will try to drill the hole first but first I have find more drill bits of that size mine broke

Hi Ronald, if you use my method you won't need drill bits. Take one of the planking pins and cut off the head of the pin. Insert the cut pin into your drill and tighten. You can then use this to pre-drill your pin holes in the planks. Angling the pins at the end does prevent the plank from splitting but you do need to pre-drill the hole first at the same angle. If you don't pre-drill the pin holes then it is very likely the plank will split.

I appreciate that, it's that part about pre drilling the hole is not mention in the instructions but I notice in the video the angle of pin is not to steep so in saying may I ask what angle do I pin the end ones

Ronald Hi Ronald, I would say around 30 degrees. With practice you'll soon get the hang of it.... The pins just hold the planks in place until the glue sets then they can be removed. Regards Alan

I did not know that good to know also about the planks that cover the Gallie supports do they get sanded smooth
after the pins came out

Hi Ronald, all planks fitted to the outer hull will be sanded smooth, the removal of the pins just makes the process easier..  Regards Alan

did you say all the pins come out I understand that the pins holding the planks for the Galilee support come out but I didn't think the pins that hold the planks on the side the ship get removed what if they are pushed in all the way like in the video or I read that part yet

Hi Ronald, you can do either. If you decide to leave the pins in then it makes the sanding stage a little more difficult as you have the pins to contend with. Any you can't remove then its best to push them fully home being careful not to split the wood. Personally I carefully remove the pins when the glue has taken a firm hold. Regards Alan
