Hi All,
Its twenty minutes past one in the morning and I have just finished my planking of the hull. Maybe its the fumes from the glue talking, but I am going to miss playing with my plank bender. My model is not looking to bad, a bit of filler and a lot of sandpaper and I should have a reasonable finish, you never know I might feel brave enough to post some pictures. Just before I laid the last plank I wrote a short note and slipped it inside the hull. I wrote about myself and when I would be hoping to complete the model. I wonder when it will be read hopefully a long time in the future.
Happy building folks
John

hi jaw, lovely to see a happy and totaly insane builder just like the rest of us,a great idea to put a note inside, for the future.I'm going to do the same, giving a brief history and summary of the world around us,the trials and tribulations that beset me trying to make this ship what it was,a glorious part of our history, and hope our grandchildren can benifit somehow.now lets see some pics after the build up I've given you Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

What a great idea Jaw, you've given me food for thought now. You never know, you might have started something here, using our glorious old ladies as time capsules. If you haven't started sanding yet here's a tip for you! You know those emery boards that our wives/partners use for their nails?. Well they make great little sanding blocks because they can bend to follow the contours of the hull. And they're cheap too I've had a few problems with my planking in that I wasn't chamferring or tapering enough and a certain amount of 'clinker' had shown up particularly at the bow and stern. So I thought I'd try a little sanding of the worst parts and it's turned out OK. This is a very satisfying pastime, and I know what it's like to forget the time when busy on the build. Very often I've been up til past 2 in the morning not realising how late it was getting. Anyway, happy building Daffy09

Brilliant idea John, I will take up on said time capsule too, but I shall be adding a passport photograph of myself to it with a short summary of myself, it puts a face behind any future thoughts about the builder, as often mentioned in the build mags when they display a pristine museum build where the description often ended...Builder Unknown??? Well thought up mate... Current Builds: Deagostini HMS Victory: Deagostini HMS Sovereign of the seas. Completed Builds: Del Prado: HMAS Bounty: Hachette: RMS Titanic: Del Prado: Cutty Sark...

Posting "Time Capsule" inside hull is great idea- But would it only be seen if hull is taken apart at some point in the future? Perhaps some visible info inside the gallery or on the back of a sail might be better option? Just a thought.

Regarding daffy's tip about emery nail files, I found these were ideal for sanding the gun ports, and for sanding the inside area's which will be exposed. I would have copied Daffy's quote as one of those white boxes you see in the forum but don't know how Come on you Jimmies
