Hi All, Some of you may recall, that some long time ago I built a dio of the San Felipe cannon by AL. Build diary on this link: Build DiaryFinished build on this link: Finished buildSo that`s the history bit done, but I`ve just purchased this AL kit of the HMS Victory Carronade. (Been after one of these for a while) Well I`ve now got one (soon to be delivered). I`ve most probably, well more like definately paid top dollar for this one, but they are getting very rare so hey-ho A pic of the box art from the listing is shown below and the lady selling it said the following: Her Brother in Law had this in his collection but never built it and after ill health died and never got around to building it. So I purchased it and will build it for her and her Brother in Law. Could be some slight enhancements, not sure until the kit is in hand. Derek Hope you enjoy building this one. That is the big problem of wanting something that is hard to track down as you do often have to pay possible more than you would have liked but the pleasure is then getting your hands on something you have always wanted. Hope it all arrives safe and sound for you. Happy Modelling

Thanks to all who looked in. Prior to Christmas I had a box opening session. All the parts in a polystyrene base and still shrink wrapped, all good at this point. Wait a minute , no instructions . Not to be foiled by this set back, I emailed AL in Spain and asked if they still had instructions on file. Got a reply in 24 hours saying the kit was so old they no longer had them on file. Ah what the heck, I`ve built the San Felipe one and I`ve got the picture off the box front, so that`s my instructions. Should be fun. Have a few pics attached as follows: Main wooden parts All the smaller parts Crew and nameplate My instructions Got a bit of clean up to do on some parts, so hope to make a start soon. Hi All, Thanks for the interest shown and I have a little update for you. I`ve had a dry fit session with the parts and a few adjustments are needed. Thankfully, the adjustments have been making slots in parts wider, rather than having to pack out loose fitting parts. A few pics below show the set up of the base (Nothing glued yet).I made the slot for the white wood strip wider to get the fit correct and in the last pic, the slot that needs some work next. This is to get the cannon ball racks to fit that are laid on the deck. Next update soon. Hi All, Update time. I`ve adjusted some of the fit issues mentioned earlier and have now applied some stain to the base and surrounding parts.(Pics 1 and 2) I have been looking at some pics of the Victory carronade (in fact lots of pics) and I`m not impressed with some of the detail of this kit. Pic 3 is a reminder of the artwork for this kit and the picture in the link below is what I intend to work too. (With a bit of builders license) Reference PicSo, I can`t find a single pic anywhere where there is a track at the rear of the carronade. Add to that the channelled wheels to follow the track. So they are gone.(Wheels to be made solid structure) Cannon rigging points in the wrong place or rigged to the wrong point. (Will change these and show the difference) Main parts of the Carronade base are wrong shape or not shaped, will change these.(Detail to follow). Other minor changes/things to do: Bases to be removed from crews feet. Main pivot underneath carronade not drilled, fiddley but will be done. Extra rigging parts and relevant rope on order. Extra cannon balls on order as not enough in kit.(5mm cycle ball bearings) The builders license involves the cannon ball racks. The kit shows a rack either side of the carronade. In the linked image only on one side and then along side the carronade. As I don`t want to obscure the view of the carronade I will leave the racks either side as shown in the artwork. Think that covers it all for now. I`m open to advise if there are other bits to think about changing. delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

This photo of the real thing will be useful, notice there is no truck rail on the deck
Also for comparison, Mantua do a similar kit http://www.cornwallmodel...catalog/info_1_801.html

Thanks for the info. The Victory picture is the best I found as well, but the Mantua version is a much better representation to show the cannon rigging, that I will be adapting on the AL Victory version. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Gandale wrote:Very nice Derek, lovely work.... Regards Alan Hi Alan Thanks for looking in. That`s the easy bit done, but have today received the instructions. I`m assuming from the seller of the kit as there was no note in the envelope as to who sent it. As I`m adapting this kit, the instructions just confirmed my original thoughts as to how this comes together, but not a lot else. Extra cannon balls arrived today, just waiting for the extra rigging bits now to see what`s next. There is a discrepency in the height of some of the parts in the ships side, so will build the cannon first and then decide on the best way to construct the side parts. Still onwards and upwards.
