Hi guys, I have been shopping today at Hobbycraft in order to buy some micro drill bits so that i can finish my launch and cannonade whilst waiting for my timber from Cornwall models. I bought a pack of 20 drills ranging from 0.3mm to 1.6mm. I chose this pack over another that gave the bits sizes in numbers, ie No56, No64. Looking in our build magazine it sometimes gives the drill size in mm and sometimes in numbers, or even sometimes as 'the same guage as the wire'. It has even given a 0.5mm bit as being a 64 and a 74. My question is does anyone have a conversion chart for these bits from mm to number and vice versa, or is it not a standard conversion ?

Thanx guys.... why do they not give a number to a halves of millimetres and whole millimetres, eg 0.5mm 1.00mm 1.5mm ? not that it matters as we are not dealing in .020 of a mill, so the nearest will work. much easier converting breaking strain to diameter of fishing line

thanx for ur help guys, come to the conclusion that fractions as small as 0.001 of a millimetre arent going to make that much difference, if in doubt i will chose a smaller bit and then enlage it to the correct size. Broke tow bits already, this guage and my eyes dont do well together but getting there. Nearly finished my launch, just the coil of rope now and then i will post a pic see what you think, cannons now. I was awaiting timber from Cornwall models, it wasnt all sent, presumably out of stock. It would help of it said when ordering whether they had it or not. Not to worry, sent for some from another source, funnily enough also in Cornwall, then i can refit the middle deck and get on with the planking. Whilst i am on, what issues are we due this month, dont seem to have been sent any for ages now ?
