I would think there is going to be a fair few of you out there that are going to customise your droid the way you want it, so a few questions please, as I too would like to do a bit of that.

1) I assume the paint used to do any 'alterations' would be acrylic, and if so would it be an idea to invest in a half decent airbrush to apply this?

2) Is it best to paint as you go along or wait until the end of the build, especially if you want to line up those all important 'blast' marks.

3) Is there any stores that are good suppliers of things that may be needed for the customisation.

4) Would any adjustments made to the electronics/mechanics side of things invalidate the warranty such that it may be, of the completed unit?

I know Tomick is going to do a Customising thread soon, but I just wanted to be on the ball they say and get a heads up.
If you build it he will come

Any adjustment or addition you make to the supplied content will invalidate warranty of a working end result.

Dangerously close to threadomancy, I know, but does this mean that even changing the paint will invalidate the warrantee on the electronics?

How are people supposed to add weathering to their R2 without painting it?

I was looking forward to adding some gloss black base lacquer from Alclad over the weekend to turn mine into an Imperial unit, but now have doubts.

No, only should the thickness of paint applied affect operation.

Basically anything that you do to it outside of the instructions/parts supplied could invalidate warranty. In the same manner that if you bought a brand new car and re-painted it, you would not expect the dealer to then honour any problem caused as a result of the new paint job.

Thanks for the clarificatiopn Tomick. My Imperial unit will go ahead as all the paint is going to be applied thinly by airbrush.

I'll start a build diary soon.

Tamiya do a panel line wash but I would practice on some scrap parts before using it on R2.
Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

I just highlighted these areas myself, some people have added there own cables and wiring. There is not a lot of information out there regarding the inner panel, but you may want to do your own research if you plan to paint these.

In terms of adding or modifying anything that might later cause operational problems..
